We had the good fortune of connecting with Ms. Curly Girl and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ms. Curly Girl, what do you attribute your success to?
I am a true believer in being transparent with my followers. Connecting with them on issues that matter, and taking the time to acknowledge and maintain a dialogue with those that have taken the time to come along with me on my journey, is very important to me.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
2020 was a crazy year for all of us. I found myself very anxious and worried for the health and well-being of my loved ones. As an outlet, I downloaded Tik Tok to just find something to make me laugh, and not think about all that was happening around us. My scrolling, turned in to actually posting my own videos of just my daily life with my kids, my experiences with co-parenting, healing from heart-break and helping others on their curly hair journey as well. One post lead to another, and I slowly gained a decent following. Within no time, a few videos went viral and I am so proud to say I have close to 165K followers that have decided to come along and share in my journeys! My biggest takeaway from it all, is that you have to be willing to share yourself, truthfully and with transparency. People will follow what they know they can trust. Someone that will be there and give them the content they look forward to. Engaging and responding to my followers is very important to me. I want them to know how much they are appreciated and seen!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live in a little town about 40 minutes from the city of Atlanta. Some say I live in the country, but the truth is, we have so many amazing little spots here in Gwinnett County! We have amazing hiking trails and parks to visit, such as Stone Mountain, Tribble Mill Park and the Gwinnett Environmental and Heritage Center. Once you are done with getting your steps in for the day…visiting one of the amazing breweries such as the Slow Pour Brewing Company in Lawrenceville is a must! Only a small walking distance away from the breweries, you have a large selection of dining to enjoy. Some of my personal favorites are Local Republic, Universal Joint and Strange Taco! While the hustle and bustle of the big city is never too far away, enjoying a more slow-paced day outside of the perimeter, is a joy as well!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Today, I take the time to shoutout the individuals that have helped me find my voice, strength, and content ideas. My children and bonus children are my driving motivation. Christiana, Christopher, Michael Bryant, Rishan and Jalen, inspire me daily to be my best self and to use my voice to help others.
