We had the good fortune of connecting with Michelle Curry and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Michelle, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
That question is funny because I’m a licensed Public Insurance Adjuster in the state of Georgia, but I love home decor since I got my first apartment. Growing up in Charleston, SC, my father was an Architect and a Master Brick Mason, but my mother worked at a hospital but loved interior decorating our home. My first art class was with my father teaching me how to draw Pegasus. On the other hand, my mother would drag my siblings and I out of bed on Saturday mornings to go to garage sales for home decor. Since Covid, I started creating decor because it helped relieve stress about what was going on with the lockdowns, etc. but also made me realize that there weren’t a lot of home decor CEOs that look like myself and representation matters our community. Creating home decor gives me the freedom to express who The Most High has made me to be while selling products that are affordable and customizable to meet my clients’ style or color scheme.

What should our readers know about your business?
Well, what sets my business apart is that I like to create or revamp pieces that I find and customize it to fit my clients’ style, occasion, or scheme for their home or office. All my decor represents a lil Gullah Geechee flare with a touch of glam. Navigating social media marketing is definitely trendy, but also hard as well. Becoming a content provider is almost becoming a full time job. I try to get advice from other content providers that have been marketing longer than me and make it my own.
The lesson that I’ve learned during this startup process is to never give up, even when it gets tough. I have to remind myself that I’m not just doing this for me, but for my community as well.
I want the world to know that UrbanRoyalty Atlanta is here to provide affordable home decor for everyone’s needs.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First off, I want to give all praises to The Most High for blessing me with this opportunity. Next I want to give a shout-out to my husband and my family for being supportive even when I was unsure of myself. They gave me the courage to strive for my dream. Shout to the Derrick Harper, Sr. and the Done Is Better Than Perfect: Free Business Academy on Facebook. He is teaching us to be servants to our community.
