We had the good fortune of connecting with Melissa Fleming and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Melissa, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I pursued a creative career out of necessity. If someone would have told me that I would own a business that makes skin care products, I would not have believed them. I wanted to be a vet, LOL. But I had children that were born with Eczema and they needed my brain to be focused on their skin instead.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business, The Fab Friend, is a place where people with sensitive skin and those who want skin care without harsh chemicals can buy safely. I am a mom of 3 daughters who started making these products because my girls couldn’t use a lot of products sold in stores. After more than 10 years in the making, I am proud that I have been able to take feedback from my customers and continue to improve my products. This has not been an easy process at all. Because I am selective of the ingredients I use, I have to do a lot of research to make sure that the ingredients I’m using address a certain need when used in products.
Due to all the hours of research I’ve done, I am able to talk with people and assist them in understanding their skin better and help them find products that they will like.
I am most excited about the new customers that shop with me not knowing what to expect, but after trying the products, come back repeatedly because of the great products & customer service.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
All of my friends are foodies, so if my bestie was visiting St. Louis we would visit Krab Kingz for a seafood boil. For the best milkshakes and great atmosphere, Crown Candy. When we want to just sit and catch up, definitely have to go downtown and ride the Ferris wheel at Union Station
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My three daughters: Kortnyee, JenNaé & Leilah. They are the reason I started my business and they are the reason I keep going everyday.
