We had the good fortune of connecting with Melanie Douglas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Melanie, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
How to know whether to keep going or to give up? Giving up isn’t a option for me. I have my children that’s depending on me and watching my every move. They motivate and give me the courage to keep pushing and to be able to stay focus to accomplish my goals

What should our readers know about your business?
I always knew as a child, that I should have a career in healthcare. I always wanted to be a pediatrician. I always loved to take care of people. My first job was actually McDonald’s. Which taught me great customer service. I then advanced and started working retail at JC Penney’s. Which made me fall in love with fashion and still maintaining great customer service, but more one on one interaction with others. Which helped build personal relations. My next job was banking. I worked for a call center for a banking company. Which there I learned a lot of different roles and was trained in a lot of things which made me love the business side for working for a large company. After working in banking and then corporate for a few years. I decided to get a job at a hospital. Which I did. St Vincent’s hospital. Where I worked for 5 years and also enrolled into school. I enrolled into school and became a medical assistant. I worked for all types of specialties. From Oncology, Gynecology, Orthopedics, Podiatry, Surgery to Plastic Surgery. Which encouraged me to become a Nurse. Working in Plastic Surgery made me want to get into Esthetics. Also as a younger me. My mother was a cosmetologist which made me fall in love with making women look beautiful. I would call myself her personal assistant. I even became her shampoo assistant. I later started working for a medical spa and even assisted with liposuction, I became the practice manger there and learned so many things and was certified in a plethora of skills. I next work and later co owned a weight loss clinic. This job I loved. I loved to see people accomplish a healthy life changing goals. Health and Wellness. I wanted to combine weight loss and esthetics which inspired Mels Medi Spa. www.melsmedispa.com I first became a mobile business. I next accepted a position as a Director of Operations/Nursing job at Slim Again weight clinic and I’m a independent contract there as well working under my business Mels Medi Spa and I have another business where I’m the owner and operator for Mel’s dispatching company. www.melsdispatching.net This is a truck dispatching company where I get loads for truckers, customer service, etc.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well this depends on which of my friends are visiting. I have different types of friends which like to do different things. First we would go out to eat. Henry’s here in Acworth food is amazing. So we would make reservations there. Or Rock South the food there is awesome as well. Going out. Probably not. More coming back to the house and catching up. Laughing and talking.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
God!!! Through him all things are possible!!! Being spiritually grounded is a must to be able to succeed. Of course my mother whom is in heaven. My guardian angel. My 2 close friends. Rose Carter for pushing me when I was overwhelmed and grieving of the lost of my mother and my friend Eric Boykin for helping me to stay on track and keeping me focus and staying clear of negativity.
