We had the good fortune of connecting with Maxim Isban and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Maxim, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Going into senior year of high school I was honestly lost. I was planning on majoring in computer science but I had no actual interest in it. At this time photography was a hobby of mine, but I never thought of taking it seriously until late senior year where I started getting more serious with it and expanding my knowledge. Photography turned from being a little side hobby to something I want to build my life around. Currently I work at ‘Cady Studios’ as a photographer and I hope to take the experience I get from it to expand my career. Having a creative career is amazing because I get to do the thing I love everyday. It gives me a way to express myself through my work and do it my way where I’m not constrained by rules on what way I have to do something. I get to use my own knowledge and judgment to create the best end product I can.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
With photography there’s such a wide range of subjects and mediums to shoot that its good to be well versed in each one. For me that’s been something I’ve been good at is having that wide range of ability. Whether its portraits, cars, landscapes, or studio work I’ve been able to take them in my stride. By using my creative eye I can use what I know about photography to transcribe it into other mediums. I’m still very early on in my career but I’ve gotten here and plan to keep going farther by expanding my knowledge and adding skills to my repertoire. Along the way I’ve learned that when you go out to create something you can’t just expect it to be perfect the first time. Especially when trying something new you have to be open to give it multiple attempts and accept you’re going to mess up along the way. Those mistakes and terrible photos you get when first trying something new is how I grow and learn. As much as it sucks I don’t learn nearly as much from a shoot when it goes right then when it goes wrong.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Whenever I’m looking for a place to shoot I typically go to either the Marietta Square, Kennesaw National Battlefield, or just exploring Atlanta. Some bigger spots though are Currahee Mountain, Providence Canyon, and Gibbs Gardens. There’s a lot of diverse spots and as long as you’re willing to take the drive you can get tons of amazing shots in Georgia.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My inspiration for photography honestly came from YouTube and seeing what other people have done. The photographers North Borders, Peter Mckinnon, and Pierre Lambert really gave me inspiration to pursue photography as a life and career.
