We had the good fortune of connecting with Matt Bhamaraniyama and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Matt, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Starting my own business has always been something that I wanted to do. Back in the days my parents used to own their own restaurant as well. When I was younger, I would go help out during summer break. Ever since then, growing up I have always worked in the restaurant business, I started as a busser, then eventually moved my way up to serving, bartending, kitchen manager, and eventually manager. Opening up my own place just made a lot of sense. One day my cousins and I decided that it was time for us to do something for ourselves. My cousins and I all have similar work experiences and we wanted to take a risk to build something for our family and our future generations.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Our restaurant is call TydeTate Kitchen. We are located inside the new food hall in West Midtown, Chattahoochee Food Works. We have been opened since April 15th 2021. What sets us apart from other Thai restaurant is that we offer comfort style Thai food and a family atmosphere. Our food options are what we normally like to eat at home with the family. Our head chef is my aunt, so we are definitely bringing that family aspect to the business. What I’m most proud of is how far we’ve come. We started off doing pop ups at different events and eventually moved onto catering. For us to be able to open a brick and mortar so soon, that’s a huge accomplishment for us. It definitely wasn’t easy. We all had to make sacrifices and put in the sweat equity to be where we are now. Deciding to open during a pandemic was also a huge risk. The biggest lesson I learned is that you have to put in the work for the business to grow. You do not want to be content. Keep your foot on the gas and keep moving forward. I want the world to know that this is just the beginning for TydeTate Kitchen!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First, I would have to take them to see all the great touristy places Atlanta have to offer. There’s the Georgia Aquarium, Coca Cola Factory, and Zoo Atlanta. After all of those spots, I would take them to Ponce City Market and Chattahoochee Food Works. They are great places to grab food and drinks. Some of my favorite restaurants includes, Haru Ichiban, Okiboru, Rumi’s Kitchen, Snackboxe, 678 Korean BBQ, and East Pearl. That’s just to name a few. After spending time in the city, I would take them up North to all the amazing hiking trails Georgia has to offer. A couple favorite hikes would be Yonah Mountain, Panthers Creek, and Cloudland Canyon. There’s so many great places to enjoy here.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The ones who deserve the most recognition would definitely be my family. I have to thank my parents for always pushing me to do more in life. Also, without my cousins/partners Bank, Sai, and Pak none of this would have happened. We might be hard on each other when it comes to our business, but we all have a similar goal that we’re striving for. This business would be nothing without them by my side.
