We had the good fortune of connecting with Mama Kei (Key) Paige Drammeh and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mama Kei (Key), why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Creativity is in my DNA. My Dad is a textile designer and made a living hand painting on silk. Art is apart of my lifestyle and is in everything I see. My dad was an avid thrifter and collector of all things. We dumpster dived for items since I can remember. My family values sustainability and made sure my Clothing was styled with creativity.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My parents were part of the pan African movement in the 70s. African art and creative Outlets were a big part of my childhood. My eyes always been open to patterns and prints and colors. As I grew older Main stream Clothing never was my niche. I discovered the thrift store one day and I was able to create a sustainable style that was unique to me. I started Thrifting for friends and family And decided that I had a gift and talent. I noticed that all of my items were vintage items and realized I can make a profit. Each week is new and another opportunity to hustle harder.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

I couldn’t be here without My Husband. He was born in Gambia West Africa and really has the American dream story. I told him I wanted to quit my job and start a business.. His response was I never saw my mother work so you don’t have to. He has supported my business since day one. He has been my biggest investor in my biggest champion.
