We had the good fortune of connecting with Makenzie Henson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Makenzie, we’d love to hear more about your end-goal, professionally.
One of the goals that I have set for myself in my career is having my own studio this way I can work in photography and continue my work into printmaking as well. Professionally at the top of my career my goal is to be reaching even farther than I was before I hope to do multiple collaborations with many different artists or magazines. I want to work with clients on projects that will boundaries or require a bit of traveling. When owning my own studio I also plan in my spare time teach photography classes for children.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My artwork is quite unique I work as a photographer primarily but I’ve also learned to experiment with different mediums such as printmaking. I got to where I am today through hard work and dedication it wasn’t easy at times it was difficult to find my way through the sand storms of life. One of the challenges I face was having supplies at time for photoshoots, which wasn’t always possible it taught me how to improvise and create my own unique materials instead of going out to buy them. I also learned how to work on the fly and the beauty of also photo editing. I want the world to know that I’m creative and determine that whatever project I take on I put my best effort in with an open mind and willingness to work with others some of my best work has also comes from doing creative collaborations with others. I prefer to mix my hands in all forms of photography such as portraits, fine art, event photography

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Little Five Points, and Midtown Little five points is a fun hangout as there are unique local shops such as Junkman’s Daughter a wicked place to cool clothes shoes and other random things for any occasion , Criminal Records a place that takes you back in time with its wide variety of music selection plus you can also sell them your old vinyls and cassette tapes and last but certainly not least Savage Pizza a literal comic book theme pizza with amazing milkshakes. Midtown has its own style and between the wide variety in cuisine there’s always a wicked attraction or something going occurring. Midtown’s galleries, museums and theaters feature sophisticated and exciting exhibitions and performances. The High Museum of Art and Center for Puppetry Arts are my top favorites to visit with the unique exhibits and performances. Wandering around the Botanical Gardens is also another fun activity plus Midtown is also a short distance from other major Atlanta attractions, such as The Georgia Aquarium , World of Coca-Cola, Georgia State Stadium, and The Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Summer King fellow artist and my mentor thank you for supportive feedback, opportunities that helped in my personal development. Summer working for you at Mosaic Minds Art Academy was an amazing experience that helped me realized I also enjoy educating young minds on art and expressing themselves in different mediums. Cecilia Gresham mother and constant supporting pillar in my pursuit of being an artist thank you for encouraging me to follow my dreams. Without you I wouldn’t had the courage to even make a career doing what I love and understand the value of hard work and determination.
