We had the good fortune of connecting with Mahogany Mills (femcee) & Paulette Horton (singer) and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mahogany and Paulette, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
We are a femcee/singer duo from Chicago. There is definitely a stigma especially being women who create music from Chicago. Todays music from Chicago is not 100% positive. We all have went through struggles and obstacles here. So to answer the question on why we chose to pursue music was to change the narrative of Chicago music. We want to bring back that story telling aspect of Chicago music. We need it now more than ever.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
MVP is a dynamic femcee/singer duo who’s goal was to create timeless music that’ll change the world. Initially we participated in so many showcases nationwide. We have traveled to Atlanta, New Orleans, Los Angeles and so many other places in hopes to build a following. We have experienced so many things as artist from being counted out, to faulty competitions, moving out of state and so many other things. It hasn’t always been the best but one thing we have learned is to keep being resilient. We have been hosting our own open mic in the Chicagoland area called Blaze and Release, we won the 312 Music Awards Best Duo of 2023, we’ve won cash prizes and through everything we dealt with we never gave up. We created a lot of our own opportunities at times when we weren’t heard. We know the journey won’t be easy. However we’re more than willing to keep pushing because the world needs to hear our music.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We actually are best friends. However some exciting things we do here together are go to Afro Fusion parties. We love the vibes and we get to hear lots of Burna Boy. We also love trying new restaurants. Can’t Believe it’s not Meat and Penelope’s are some of our favorite vegan spots to eat at. Also the Lakefront is always fun and relaxing.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We would love to shout-out Burna Boy. Essentially we are categorized as R&B and Hip Hop however we do all genres. Burna Boy has been a big inspiration to our artistry. His music is made to inspire and bridge the gap between cultures. We listen to his music every day and have hopes of working with him in the future.
