We had the good fortune of connecting with madam cj and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi madam, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursued an artistic career because I needed the freedom to be myself at all times.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What sets us apart from others is that we work with Goat’s Milk and Coconut Milk to make our products. I am happy to say that my current business partners, Oronike Odeleye of Mute RKelly and One Music Fest and Jamila Norman of Patchwork City Farms and the Magnolia Network TV show, “Homegrown, helped me overcome the challenge of being a struggling solopreneur. Jamila and Oro, watched me struggle with Divine Clementine’s Soap on A Rope. They came to me and made me an offer I could not refuse. This was 3 years ago. Because of their belief in me and the already existing product, they decided to do what sister friends do and invest in my company. We have since grown and are building to scale. We joined forces with Oakhurst Farmer’s Market and this partnership attracted Kroger to us. We are now apart of Krogers new digital farmer’s market in Atlanta and we are happy about it! Jamila is now on national tv and because of her new found fame, we are gaining more visibility thru her Instagram platform. I want the world to know that our company was created because I was diagnosed with uterine fibroids, a condition that 80% of Black women will deal with or have dealt with that can cause infertility, bloating, incontinence, constipation and anemia. This condition is fed by toxic chemicals that cause estrogen dominance aka xenoestrogens. I created the soap because skin is the largest organ on the body and conventional grocery store soaps contain xenoestrogens that feed conditions like fibroids. Our bath and body products have been not only helping women with fibroids, like myself, but also children with eczema and people going thru cancer radiation treatment.

I am very fortunate to have “changed poison into medicine”(A Nichiren Buddhist spiritual concept), with being diagnosed with uterine fibroids.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take my friend to Sapelo Island or Savannah to the beach, since we are still in the pandemic. I choose safety and nature these days, not crowds.
