We had the good fortune of connecting with Luvenia White and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi LuVenia, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
My business partner and I produce sketch comedy shows in the Atlanta area. We often reflect on the success and challenges of our business. Every time we put on a show we run into different obstacles that make us want to throw in the towel. Whether it is slow ticket sales, inconsistent rehearsal attendance, facility prices, low attendance, poor weather conditions, etc. However, we love what we do so much that we keep pushing in-spite of the challenges. We understand that we have to keep moving forward in order to reach our destination. After each show we learn form our mistakes and celebrate our wins. The only way to reach the top of the mountain is to keep climbing. So we keep climbing.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a poet, playwright, actress, teacher, and author. I use all my artistic expressions to complement each other. When I write and perform my poetry, I paint a picture to the audience and readers. I use the art of storytelling to capture my audience. My humor is sprinkled throughout everything I do.
I am currently most proud of a children’s book I just published. The book is entitled, Time For Math. I took poetry, storytelling, and my love for teaching and created a book that is both fun and engaging. All of my books can be found on Amazon and Lulu.com.
I have a B.A. in Elementary Education and Early Childhood. I also have a Masters in Mathematics Education. Obtaining those degrees have helped me become a better teacher and writer. I have also been blessed with some amazing mentors who have given me honest feedback and wisdom.
This journey has not been easy. I have wanted to give up many times, but my supporters showed me how much my gifts were needed and appreciated.
I have learned to devote my time and energy into the things that make me happy. If I love what I do, I’ll have a better chance at continuing my journey to greatness.
I want people to hear my name and know that I will always give you quality poems, plays and stories.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love to have fun. Therefore, I would make sure to take my friend to Atlanta’s Betline area which offers several activities. We would ride scooters to Ponce City Market. Then we would grab a bite to eat from the variety of restaurants they have. After eating we would head up to the rooftop to play some adult games and have some drinks.
The next day we would head to Stone Mountain and hike up the mountain to see a beautiful view of the entire city. After our hike we would stop by The Sweet Potato Cafe and have a a nice southern meal. Later that night we will unwind at the house to Netflix and chill.
The next day we would head to the Sandbox and play some virtual games with VR headsets. There are some nice eating spots in the area, so we would hit one up.
Throughout the week, I would make sure we have a spa day at a local massage parlor.
Let’s not forget about Beat the Bomb, an interactive game-room that will have you racing against the clock. After leaving there, we will head over to Chattahoochee Food Work to enjoy some of the best up coming food places in the Atlanta area.
One of my favorite things to do in Atlanta is to head to Piedmont Park for a festival, concert, or to just fly kites.
I love my city, because there is always something to do in Atlanta. Whether it is an open mic night, karaoke spot, lounge, brunch, game room, or simply chilling out, there is something for everyone.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shoutout Wanda Wynn Watters and my entire drama Ministry from church, who exposed me to theater. They encouraged me to step out of my shell and use the stage to let my voice be heard. As a result I have performed in and written several plays.
There are so many people I want to shoutout. I have been writing since I was a teenager. I started writing poetry after hearing Jessica Care Moore win countless times on Showtime at the Apollo. My love for poetry grew into a passion in those days. I have two poetry books now. She lit a fire in me and there has been countless people who have given me the fuel to keep it burning.
My mother and father have been my number one supporters. They believe in me more that I believe in myself at times. I would not be where I am today without their continuous support.
Most of all, I want to thank God for giving me the gifts and talents that I have. I try to use them to uplift His Kingdom every chance I get.
