We had the good fortune of connecting with Lindsey Anderson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lindsey, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risks are necessary for life. I always have and will always bet on myself. Taking the first step is a risk; deciding not to give up no matter what is a risk, choosing to follow your heart is a risk. Every one of my accomplishments results from taking a chance and knowing that I will be able to bounce back no matter the outcome. I’m fully aware of what could go wrong, but I wouldn’t be able to live with the “what if” if I didn’t at least try. Stepping out on faith has yet to fail me, so I will continue to take risks in my life and business.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Vision Driven 757, INC. is a 501c3 nonprofit organization set out to enhance the community by bettering our youth. As an organization, we pride ourselves on always being there for our children and giving them the tools and resources needed to transition into functioning and thriving adults. Even before we received our 501c3 status, we hosted events and workshops to provide our youth information and resources. We have done so many great things as an organization, but to date, our lunch program, Lunch on US, is one of the most amazing things we’ve done. When the pandemic first hit, we were on the front lines, making and delivering lunches and meals to families in need with school-aged children. We were able to provide over 8500 lunches from March to July. In 2018, Vision Driven 757 was started after a failed attempt to create a different business. When I realized the initial idea wasn’t going to work, I changed gears. I started focusing on what I love, the community, and, more specifically, the youth. After getting started, I once again tried to do something different, and once again, it didn’t work. I learned that when you’re made for something, doing anything rarely works.
Vision Driven is not just the name of my business. It’s who I am; it’s how I move. I have the vision, I write the plan, and I drive towards the goal. I have set out to teach others, children and adults alike, how to pursue your dreams and walk in your purpose.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were to visit, we would be all over Hampton Roads. We could brunch at my favorite spots in Portsmouth, Yoolks on US, then catch the ferry boat to Waterside in Norfolk. The next day we could stay on Granby Street in Norfolk. We would start the day with a smoothie from Norfolk Smoothie, brunch at The Main, and dinner at any lounge on Granby. One day, we’d have to make our way to Hampton, breakfast at Tommie’s is always a must, shopping in the Peninsula Town Center, lunch at Mango Mangeaux, then make our way to Newport News and hit Tucano’s for dinner. Virginia Beach would also be a great spot to spend the weekend. The day would consist of lying on the beach and walking the oceanfront. We would spend the evening at SelfieWrld, and we could find several unique restaurants and bars in the town center.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
So many people have helped mold and shape me into the person that I am today. My parents and my sister introduced me to entrepreneurship; they have their own business and still find the time to support me constantly. They work just as hard as I do for my dreams and goals. My mentor, Jeanita Castille, helps to push me and keep me motivated when I doubt or question myself. My life coach, Rachquel Johnson, has helped me to grow mentally and spiritually. Last but not least, my tribe consists of the most amazing people. Each of us is on a journey, but we always make time to support and encourage each other.
