We had the good fortune of connecting with LINDSAY VON and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi LINDSAY, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
As it pertains to art, I am most happy when I am inspired with an artistic idea and I am quickly able to pick up a brush and start painting. I can’t wait to see how the idea unfolds on the canvas and what I might discover while creating. I think my best pieces of work are often created when I am happy, focused and free! Owning my work and my thought process brings me so much joy and freedom. When a customer can see that in my work, it is even more satisfying. The process of creativity also brings me the freedom to express myself and when a client purchases my work it brings me such happiness to know that a little piece of my inspiration is in their home.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I work with acrylic, pastels, charcoal and gouache on canvas and paper. My art is often inspired by the colors and shapes of nature. You’ll often see many shades of blues in my work along with different textures and lines. I live in Buckhead with my two girls and husband. Growing up as a daughter of an art teacher and architect I have always had an interest in the Arts. I studied Economics while attending The University of Florida and had the opportunity to study Art in Florence, Italy. After Florence, I knew I would always have a passion for painting but it was quite some time after that that I began to create abstract paintings and sell my work. Before my career in art and having a family I had several jobs in Advertising and my main focus was in telecom. I enjoyed meeting so many different people, traveling for work, long nights strategizing, and dinners at the office, but, I always had the urge to paint and create. Fast forward 6 or 7 years, I had my first daughter, Grace, and when searching for the right piece of artwork for her nursery a good interior designer friend of mine said ” why don’t you make one yourself”. So I made a studio in our sunroom and took off painting. Not only was I so ecstatic to make something for my daughter’s nursery that I hope she would cherish forever but I was also so excited about this new feeling of independence and creativity. Soon after my daughter was born, I started entering shows, selling my work to family, friends, and then many clients I had never met. The accomplishment was more satisfying than any other job I had and that’s when I knew I would always have a job in the Art industry. I am blessed that I get to do what I love every day. A hobby that has turned into a passion and a career is something that I will cherish forever.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If we are enjoying a long weekend with friends and kids, our go to spot is the Atlanta Botanical Gardens! There’s so many things to do there for both kids and adults. We love the kids playground where they host weekly arts and crafts, the Alice’s Wonderland exhibit, cocktails in the gardens and Summer night concerts (pre pandemic!) We also love showing our out of towners the Peachtree Farmers Market on Saturdays or grabbing a coffee and small bite at Chattahoochee Coffee Company and walking along the river. For lunch or dinner, we have tried to find family friendly restaurants with patio seating and have really enjoyed eating on the patio at KR Steakbar, JCT Kitchen and Little Rey.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family and friends have always been supportive of my career as an artist, but my main support is my husband. From the beginning, he has encouraged me to create my own art and business and to follow my passion. He has attended all of my shows, helped set up my work, takes pictures, helps with my website and most importantly entertains our two busy girls while mommy has to paint! I am also surrounded by such talented and positive women represented at Buckhead Art and Company. The owner, Katie Jones, and the many talented artists she represents, always inspire me to create new work and go outside my comfort zone.
