We had the good fortune of connecting with Levina J. and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Levina, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The journey of Starting my own business has been about freedom. Having the opportunity to work on what fulfills me, and being able to prioritize my family. Corporate America would have you believe that the only way to be successful is to get a high paying job. The truth is you can have a stable comfortable life doing things that make you happy! There are so many ways one can be successful. Starting a business is just my journey but it’s not the only other option either. Different people have many gifts and talents to share with the world. Do what fulfills you.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m really excited about my new business “Lush x LJ”. As a creative person it’s often we find inspiration from different forms of art. Fashion to me is art. When I was a little girl I dreamed of having my own clothing line. I sketched. I even made clothes for my dolls! Somewhere along the way I let that dream go in pursuit of many other things, but I found it again! I have the opportunity to curate items that speak to the woman I have become, but also be the voice of every glamorous, confident, and sexy woman out there. Especially mother’s!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
For a weekend trip in Atlanta, It’s hard to say. The city changes pretty fast and unfortunately Covid-19 took many great small businesses away. But, I would definitely visit PASHA for music, drinks, and vibes. The brunch scene is unparalleled here, so you can’t go wrong with The 4 Seasons or Seven Lamps. Those are two of my favorites. And if you have little ones like me the Aquarium Downtown is a must see!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my family and friends. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again… I’m not self-made. My family and friends have all made sacrifices to support my journey and see me win. For that I am blessed and will be forever grateful. Sometimes as we progress in life we forget those who helped us get there. Whether it was words of encouragement, time, talent, or promotion. My circle is small but I’m thankful for each and every one of them.
