We had the good fortune of connecting with Lauren Comer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lauren, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
I don’t think outsiders realize how much time, effort, and money influencers and content creators invest into their work, business, and content. Although my daily content might only be an instagram feed post and 10-15 instagram story slides, there’s a lot that goes on behind the scenes. I, and many other content creators, manage almost every aspect of the business including creative, design, business services, copywriting, photography, videography, media editing, brand negotiations, and strategy. For every DIY project that I post about on my feed I’ve spent countless hours creating a mood board, writing captions and blog posts, developing (and revising) a project design, doing product research, making sure projects stay within a reasonable budget, and when I’m working with a brand I’m also working within tight deadline windows. Being a content creator is is fun and exciting but I think people underestimate the realities of being a one woman show!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a social media content creator for my own business/brand, Pinch Plate Party. Pinch Plate Party is all about making your home your favaorite place to be and my goal is to encourage and inspire homeowners in their pursuit of making a house a home. I run two main social accounts; my instagram and my blog. One of the reasons I strugged with really taking my account seriously is because I felt like my home style was so different than other homes that I saw on social media… only to realize that my style being different is really what sets me apart from others. I’m a big fan of color, patterns, and textures, and I have a rather eclectic style. I find that if too many people are adapting a trend, I’m less likely to want to be a part of that trend. I’m most proud of myself for taking a leap of faith and putting a little bit of my life out there for the world to see! It was not easy to begin with but I’m glad I stuck with it because I’ve definitely developed a lot more confidence in my creative ability and I’m really blessed by the community I’ve developed through my creative work. Some of the challenges that I face is that it can be really easy to get burnt out. Where you average person might be tackling on DIY projects a few times a year, I’m working on something every single week! It’s something that I enjoy having to constantly “create” can get exhausting at times. One thing I want the world to know about my brand and my story is that every day I wake up and take pride in my content and in the things I create in my home! I love inspiring others to try new things and to do new things in their homes too. If every day I encourage just one person to try something new in their home, I feel that I’ve been successful in my work.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am a foodie at heart so I would definitely base an intenerary around my favorite restaurants: Ecco, Cafe Agora, Victory Sandwich Bar, Tabla, Cypress Street Pint and Plate, and although people might disagree with this decision, I would bring them to The Varsity for the Onion Rings and a Frosted Orange. I like encorporating the outdoors whenever possible: Hiking at Kennesaw Mountain, Biking on the silver comet trail, experiencing a Braves game, and enjoying a movie at Starlight 6 Drive-In Theatre. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my family, more specifically my husband and my parents. These 3 individuals have always been my biggest cheerleaders. My husband is a constant force in my life and he was the one who really encoruaged me to give Pinch Plate Party a try. He supports me and my dreams and trusts my vision for the DIYs I complete in our house (even when he might not understand why I do what I do). My dad always took the time to teach me how to use tools and was never too busy to show me something new. He wasn’t afraid to let his little girl handle big tools and was always patient with me as I learned. My mom has always encouraged and supported me in my creative endeavors. As a child she encouraged my painting, sewing, and drawing phases. She saw a talent and took the time to help me hone my talents further.
