We had the good fortune of connecting with LaJoy Cox and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi LaJoy, can you tell us about what you are most excited or proud of in terms of the business you’ve built?
The thing that makes me so proud of the company that I have built is the fact that my company from a small start up to a brand that has worked with celerities and travelled world wide working with brides and grooms on various photo shoots. I am happy that I am able to continue to grow my company as well as spend more time with my family. At one point the biggest accomplishment that I had was working with magazines like Black Bride and Munaluchi Bride. Now my company has worked with Netflix on the show Love Is Blind and Married at first Sight. At one point it was such a huge deal to be in the room with a celebrity and now I am at parties and events with these same celebrities and I don’t even post the photos to my social media pages. I have learned so much and my company has grown so much that I am just grateful and happy to be able to say I did this all alone and now I have help and it feels great.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My company specializes in Documentary wedding and portrait photography. It has not been an easy journey and each day I forced to change and adapt to changing situations. Covid-19 is not any different and has forced me to change lots of things in order to stay open and in operation during this time. I simply do what I have always done which is every six months I make changes necessary to keep up with the competition. I change the way I communicate with my clients the way I package my products and the way I shoot because every day is a learning process. My brand was built by a woman who wanted nothing more other than to be there more for her family and provide for them. I am happy that I have be able to work hard all these years to accomplish this and grow with each year.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Majority of my friends are artist in some way just like myself so if one of them came to visit we would have a blast in Atlanta. Our first stop would be the High Museum of Art so that we can reminisce about the old times in school and check out some great art in the process. Our next stop for a great meal would be The Old Lady Gang restaurant in Atlanta. The food is so amazing and I think that it has some of the best southern food in Atlanta. Next a night at a nice park in the city for some shots of my friend. Making sure that we see Piedmont park and Centennial park because those area are a big part of the city. Last but not least a great shopping day at Lenox Mall and The Avalon in Alpharetta GA.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My boyfriend Teko. He started just attending wedding with me and holding my bags and helping with lens selections for certain shots. He was super helpful but he wanted to be more of an asset. 3 years later he is now my second shooter for weddings and videographer for any video content that is put out for my company. He has helped my company grow because of his love for me and the fact that he believed in me enough to know that I could grow beyond what I thought.
