Meet Lachauna Edwards | Civil Rights Attorney & Marriage Blogger

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lachauna Edwards and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lachauna, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I am very risk averse! Well, I should say that I used to be risk averse. My whole life I have played it safe. I am a federal employee and initially only seen myself working for the government through the end of my career. However, about three years ago I started dreaming of a side hustle impacting millennial marriages and I kept putting it off because I was afraid. Afraid of the risk of being judged for being young or being “unqualified” to speak. I struggled with this for years and then COVID…
Last year (like for many people) presented the green light for me to launch out on my passions and dreams, so I took a leap. I began creating content on IG, then I started getting positive feedback so I began to dive deeper into what I saw myself doing which led me to my first big risk in business, which was paying for the design and printing of my first product – “A Well Planned Wife” planners. It was a risk that has now launched so many other ideas that I look forward to creating in the future. I have realized that you truly have to invest in yourself to live out your dreams, so I feel much more comfortable taking risks now than I did about a year ago.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a civil rights attorney in my day to day work. However, as of last year I have found a deep passion for content creation on instagram. I have coined myself a “Marriage Ally.” Being a content creator with a full-time job is SO HARD!! But as a civil rights attorney and a black woman with a black family; I feel like I have been called to influence wives and help black families build healthy, happy homes, through strong marriages.
I recently reached 10k followers and it was such a relief because the process to get here took a lot of work. I feel like I took a phd course on understanding instagram and how to be an influencer. It was frustrating a lot of the time, trying to understand the algorithm and the needs of my audience. However, I am so happy to finally be in a place where the process seems less stressful.
There are a lot of “relationship gurus” on the internet but my personal calling is to help in the healing and restoring of the black family. I believe that making our families whole again is pertinent for us to achieve and be all that our community deserves.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am on a mission to support black owned businesses so first and foremost we are headed to Breakfast at Barneys!
Afterwards we are headed to the beltline near Krog st. I absolutely love the vibe in this area, plus there are great backdrops for a photo session. We can grab a couple bikes and ride out to Ponce City Market and go to the rooftop for drinks.
And since we’re already in the neighbohood, I absolutely LOVE Mary Macs so we are headed to Mary Macs for lunch. I will be getting the smothered chicken with collard greens and yams and a peach cobbler to go!
Next on the menu is the new drinking spot, Slush ATL. Edgewood ave. is a whole vibe!
To cap off our evening we are headed to this AMAZING black owned restaurant called “Rock Steady” so we are absolutely having dinner here. The vibe is so grown and sexy and yet laid back. Oxtail Pasta for me please!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My Husband! He has been so supportive of my dreams over the last year. Helping me pay for courses, products, and just being a great father by keeping our children while I escape to my office to focus on my business tasks. Being a working mom is no easy feat, but having a supportive partner makes it so much more feasible!
