We had the good fortune of connecting with Kydavia Hassell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kydavia, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I pursued this career because of the freedom it gave me. Being the mother of 3 girls, I wanted to make sure I was around for all of their important moments in their life. This career has also fed my creativity as well. Being able to express myself through cake and have customers love it has been a great feeling!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart is that I don’t stay the same. I’m constantly evolving, rebranding or whatever it takes to see my business grow. I’m always marketing to new and old clients. I’m very proud that I was able to launch a journal for fellow bakers in my community to assist in setting the tone for their day. Prioritizing, etc. I got where I am today by following those things and never giving up. No matter how tough it got, I didn’t quit. I’ve learned that consistency and discipline are the first things you need to master in order to run a successful business. I want the world to Know me as the Paula Dean, Martha Stewart of the baking industry. I want to be involved in my craft in every aspect!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friends were visiting I would definitely take them to Suga Mamas Snoballs (whitehaven or east memphis location) to grab a sweet New Orleans style snowcone. For food I’d take them to Slim and Husky’s pizza! We’d also hang out at places such as main event, painting with a twist!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are dozens of people who have played a huge role in the journey I have been on, if I had to name one person it’d be my friend Janee McClain. Janee has constantly instilled the importance of faith and tithing in me over the past few years and it has does a tremendous work over my life and the success of my business.
