We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristin Meredith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kristin, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
“From little things, big things grow.” I have always been drawn to acorns and have collected them over the years, whether in nature, jewelry, or hand-carved collectibles. I was unaware of this attraction until one day, I noticed all of the acorn pieces in my home, I even have a bowl of actual acorns that my nieces collected with me. That is also when I came across the above quote, the chorus of a song by Kev Carmody and Paul Kelly. I then rebranded KMM Collective with the acorn logo.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What I am most proud of is taking the leap to design my line of clothing. My husband and I have traveled extensively through Mexico, Central and South America, and Morocco, and I have collected bags, clothing, jewelry, and textiles on these journeys. Watching artisans create these goods by hand is what inspired me to start my own business, partnering with artisans in India and Peru, creating a laid-back, sophisticated line of dresses, tops, and skirts, perfect for everyday life and leisure.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My husband and I love to cook and have a wonderful screened porch where we love to entertain. I would serve dinner on the porch the first night. After a day of travel, this would allow my friend to get settled. The other nights, I would take them to some of my favorite restaurants like The Iberian Pig and 246. We live in Decatur where there are many great restaurants to choose from.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am fortunate to have peers and other female entrepreneurs, who have been growing with me from the start. I dedicate this shout-out to the women in a group that I recently joined called W4W (women 4 women, https://www.w4wsmallbusiness.com/) This is a group of like-minded, creative women who share knowledge, support one another, and gather together to spread knowledge about everyone in the group. Our tag-line is “Start small, dream big.”
