We had the good fortune of connecting with Kimberly Carter and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kimberly, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I always enjoyed dancing ever since I was a little girl, but when I went to college my passion for creating grew and I found a new love for the art of dance. Once that fire was ignited, I began choreographing halftime routines for my college dance team, hosted dance classes, and put together showcases with various styles of dance. I loved creating a space for movement literally anywhere, so a year and a half ago Ki Movement Limited Co. was born.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I feel what sets me apart from others is that I offer a creative outlet for everyone; from men to women, kids to adults, aerobic dance to heels classes, audition prep to choreography consultations, there is something for anyone. I also strive to bring fresh and fun energy to all of my classes in order to keep everyone wanting to come back for more. I think I am most excited about my upcoming active and lounge wear drop for Breast Cancer Awareness Month because there are some cute pieces and a special logo exclusively for Breast Cancer Awareness. It definitely was not easy getting to where I am today with my business, as there was a long period of time where things were slow and I doubted myself, but I just had to keep the faith, put out my content, and continue to promote myself. I want the world to know that my passion and my creative mindset makes a lot of beautiful stories through dance because sometimes it’s not about the talent of the dancer, but the heart so never judge or assume what a person is capable of.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I feel like there is so much to do here, so this is a tough one. I know I would love to show them the Bamboo Forest and the Roswell Waterfall. Since I love to eat, we would spend majority of our time going to Toast on Lenox, Elite Lounge, Blu Seafood House, and Real Tacos. I also really like to have fun so Puttshack, Skyline Park, Ponce, and Atlantic Station will definitely be on the list too.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my mom and grandmother, as they are my two biggest cheerleaders that are no longer here to see me turn my dreams into reality. My genuine inspiration to actively pursue my dreams comes from them. Family is everything to me and I wouldn’t be where I am today without them, so I am forever grateful to them. There are also people apart of my village that never hesitated to take a chance on me and my vision, specifically my elementary school counselor and mentor, so thank you.
