We had the good fortune of connecting with Kimberly Butin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kimberly, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I’ve been writing since I was about nine years old. Having the opportunity to share my thoughts and stories with the world has always been a plan of mine.

I just hope that my words find the right people and helps others feel what I felt when I fell in love with reading – a little less alone in the situations I’ve faced.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’d say what sets my writing apart from others would be authenticity. I try to always show a level of vulnerability in my writing that I would typically avoid. With my living experiences, I would say this gives my writing something that separates it from some others.

Having gone through the foster system, growing up adopted, having lived through abusive relationships – my writing touches on experiences that are often not discussed.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d say that I have a lot of creative friends – the ability to see their creative process and how they present their work has always inspired me. To name a few – Elliott Starks, Oscar Gonzalez Shavonne Fluellen, Jibreel Smith, and lyricist/musician Jessie Wayne.

Thank you all for all the support you’ve given me and for always being incredible.
