We had the good fortune of connecting with Kimberley Matthews and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kimberley, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was being true to myself. I was committed to corporate America for years without a real plan of elevating to the role that would pay me my worth and make me happy. So when I started my business it was driven by my love for interior decorating and styling over the top events. I really enjoy doing things out of the normal, and I love to host and entertain guest. I am the definition of an extrovert so event planning and coordinating is right up my alley.
What should our readers know about your business?
The name of my business is Wall2Wall Events. When I chose my business name I wanted a name that explained how my company would handle events. So we literally do everything from Wall to Wall to ensure your event is perfect. We plan, coordinate, decorate and make it a memorable experience. I enjoy taking a client’s idea and putting a spin on it and detailing everything as much as possible. I like for the guest to leave talking about the experience not just “I went to an event”. I am most proud of my growth. I started this company two years ago and the growth has been phenomenal. I love that my client’s trust me to design something nice and give me free creative control. I am also a mom of 3, so even though this industry is demanding it allows me to be home and not on a set schedule. I have to admit at first it was scary because I was used to a bi- weekly check, and switching over to making the money on my own really was an adjustment but it’s working out great and I love it! Some lessons I have learned along the way are to charge my worth and not to second guess myself. People will pay for what they want and treat you how you allow them. I need the world to know I am here to stay and slay all your over the top events!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting the area the itinerary would include lots of eating, and shopping. More than likely me and my best friend would catch a flight internationally rather than domestic. However if we were in Atlanta, every day would consist of roof top and out door dining. We would shop and attend day parties, spa visits and did I say shopping? lol we love trendy things and places so we would be looking for the newest releases for the season and the “it” restaurants.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to shoutout my mom, industry mentors, and my sister. They have all motivated me, supported me and given advice along the way. This journey along with most journey’s in life require a support group and my group has been more than real and amazing to me. I thank them for always encouraging me when I doubted myself or just pointed me in the right direction when I needed it.
