We had the good fortune of connecting with Kim Andrews and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kim, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind the success of my brand is my family. My son especially! I’m inspired by the words of encouragement from my husband. He is constantly motivating me to do/try new things. I’m not afraid to fail because if I never try then how would I know it would fail? That’s one thing that keeps me on my toes. My son is the reason I am mother. The reason I can now relate to other moms in a sense of motherhood. They are the most important factor to me.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I create custom items. Shirts, hoodies, blankets, elephants, etc. It’s like a gift shop: I have something for everyone. What sets me apart from others is the quality of my items. When you think of buying a tee, you think of that one common brand that most people use. I searched high and low for a different brand. Something soft and durable. My customers rave about the softness of their shirts and that alone makes me proud. I am where I am today because of God. He gave me the vision and I stepped out on faith. I had a TikTok video go viral and then poured in 200+ orders. It wasn’t easy because I was a beginner but I was able to overcome the overwhelming amount of orders with the help of my family. My parents would watch my son while I pressed. When my husband got home from work, he would attach shipping labels and take them to the post office. I learned that it’s okay to sell out of an item for the sake of sanity, lol! I want the world to know that being a mom and entrepreneur is doable. When you shop from a “mompreneur” it’s more than just another dollar and item shipped. It’s a mom “mommying; making it happen by any means necessary.”
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Let’s say my two besties, Deundra & Jessica came to visit. I would take them to Atlanta. We’d have *TO* eat some Juicy Crabs (OF COURSE). Visit the Ferris wheel and see over the tallest building in ATL. Check out the dolphins at the Aquarium. And for sure scream on the Goliath at Six Flags. We’d definitely hang out at Atlantic Station Mall, it’s so much to do there. Shop, eat, sit and talk. Atlanta is full of so many exciting things.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband, Denzel. Oh my goodness. God gave me the idea, but my husband is the reason I have made it thus far. He made the initial investment and he continues to do so. I’m not acknowledging him simply because he is my husband but he truly deserves some credit too! He drops off packages, pick-up my supplies, and he will even tell stranger, “MY WIFE MADE THIS!” with pride. I am thankful.
