We had the good fortune of connecting with Kierra Mariah and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kierra, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Taking risk is a HUGE factor when trying to be successful in this industry. You literally have to take risk every single day. Sometimes when taking risk, you have to understand that not every risk is going to land you somewhere. It may not land you that role you audition for, the modeling casting you wanted to book, or the investment deal you’ve been trying to secure. But you always want to be able to tell yourself “I tried” rather than, “I wish I did”.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started modeling about a year ago. I grew up in a small town in South Carolina where there really isn’t much. When I told people I wanted to start modeling, they would always give me this crazy look. I’ve always been told, “Pick a more realistic career,” or “Don’t you think you’re too short to model.” Of course the discouragement hurt, but that didn’t stop me. I got rejected by numerous modeling agencies until I finally got signed by a small agency. Within few months I had a working portfolio. I started learning my craft and how to work my body. Being a 5’3″ I had to make myself stand out if I wanted to impress people. I knew I had to bring more to the table. That’s when I started incorporating acting into my career. Eventually, I book my first car commercial and landed pages in various magazines (USA & International). Two of which I landed on the front cover of. I want people to know that you are able to accomplish anything in this world when you put your mind to it. Don’t every let someone stop you from living your dreams.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had to pick somewhere to hang out with my girls, I would definitely head to the mall because I love shopping! My favorite mall to shop is Lenox mall! I recently just went to the IPIC Theatre in Midtown to see the opening of Venom. Would definitely go see a movie there with my friends. Also, downtown Atlanta has great food spots to eat at as well. My favorite spots to eat at are the Park Bar, Just Around the Corner, and Atlanta Breakfast Club!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My journey so far has been a long one but a great one. I still have along way to go to reach my goals. I love to thank my parents for supporting me at the beginning of my journey. I would like to thank my photographer/mentor DJ Washington. From day he has always believed in me and has given me stunning photos for my portfolio! And last but not least my best friend Shawndre’ Young who has been by my side since I started my modeling journey. She literally has been my rock and a shoulder to cry on when needed the most.
