We had the good fortune of connecting with Kiah Arnold and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kiah, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
The most important thing that I have done as a parent is to pursue entrepreneurship with my son in the passenger’s seat. This process has allowed him to see that he, too, can create monetary avenues for himself. Hopefully, him witnessing my hard work and determination will encourage him to put forth the same effort (or more) in his pursuits. He also gets to see the entire process from conceptualization to completion. In my opinion, this is vital because it will help him to be patient and not feed into instant gratification.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
E11even Keez Media + Creative is a digital creative consultant agency ideal for brands who want quality creative, brand, and image consulting to help clarify their brand, tell their story, enhance their reach, and influence their audience. Services include creative direction, brand and marketing strategy, and content creation— summarized as “Vision, Video, Voice, and Visuals.” There are many options for creative consulting, but E11even Keez Media + Creative focuses on small businesses and startups that are primarily owned by minorities or service minorities. After seeing multiple start ups (particularly those owned by Black women) lack a clear brand story and professional marketing materials, E11even Keez Media was restructured to be a “one-stop-shop” solution.
Additionally, E11even Keez Media , LLC is comprised of four sectors: E11even Creative (creative and brand consulting and content creation), Hollywood Keez Style (image consulting), Keez Kreations (graphic design), and Keez Tees (apparel.)

The company has contributed to several brands including the National Urban League, Blavity, Inc., and the University of Kentucky.

EKMC was initially created so I could utilize my creativity to tell visual stories. Then, I realized I could use my plethora of skills to help businesses increase their visibility and amplify their stories. Another goal of mine for EKMC is to provide economic opportunities for others.

As an entrepreneur, I am most proud that I have stuck with this for two years now. I am not one for long term commitments, so this truly lets me know I am working in passion and purpose. I am also proud of my continuous growth and ability to articulate my mission better and better each time.

I got to where I am today with the grace of God. My skill set was given to me by Him, and it is my duty to share these gifts with the world to make it a better place. I also have a B.A. in Broadcasting & Electronic Media from Eastern Kentucky University which has opened up several doors.

A challenge I currently face is separating business from pleasure. Though people may be my friends, I have to make sure I am not sliding on the procedures I have put in place if they choose to work with me. I also need to be clear, up front, with the rules and consequences should someone not follow them. I need to be strict and not back slide, because once exceptions are made, my credibility starts to diminish. I’m currently re-writing procedures when it comes to photography because of some recent negative experiences.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live in Lexington, Kentucky. If anyone were to visit here I would suggest hitting the following:

Creaux- Black owned, New Orleans-style bar that is popping Thursday-Saturday. Great food, great drinks, live music or a DJ, and a diverse group of people.

Alfalfa- Black owned restaurant with vegan options. They have live art events as well.

Distillery District and The Summit- for the aesthetics
