We had the good fortune of connecting with Khari Jones Jr and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Khari, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursued an artistic career because I’ve always wanted to express myself freely, and unapologetically. Throughout my life, I had people that were intimidated by my intelligence so they’ll try to silence me. And I’ve seen it happen to others. Art is my driving force to help me inspire others and speak my truth. Nobody can control your creative expression. In this next season, I’m even more excited to share with the world my truths through music. This past year, I’ve expanded many writing ability to compose music. Music is an art that I have always been passionate about, but never pursued it. When my daughter was born, and the challenges that came with her birth, I felt spiritually inclined to make music. We have a voice.

In retrospect, journalism has prepared for me the biggest moment in my career. It’s been about a year of perfecting the craft, studying the business, and connecting with my other peers in the music industry. This was destined from the start when I think about my life growing up. The story will get told.

One thing about being a creative, you have transferrable skills. The gift of writing has opened many doors for me, and songwriting will expand my reach and messages around the world.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What I am most excited about is this next journey in music. One of the gifts I have is my ability to learn. I’m having fun again creating, which is most important to me. For years, I have always told the stories of others. Now, in music I get to tell my story and challenge myself artistically. The choice to dive in music was not overnight.

Before I ever thought about music, I was always spending long hours in studios helping friends get inspired. My whole life I was surrounded around musicians and I even spent a few years in the choir. Never dawned on me to take it seriously. In 2018, I had the pleasure of working with Grammy nominated producers, Mike N Keys. Music was calling me along time and this is what I’m excited about. I look forward to continue having fun in my career.

It was not easy to get here. I’ve had to reinvent myself a few times. I overcame the challenges by removing the naysayers because they take up too much energy and can cloud your judgement.

I want the world the know that in everything I do, I look to be the best. Motivated Purpose Records will be officially launched soon. A ton of music undeniable music is on the way and we’re not taking the traditional route in the music industry.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them to some networking events, and tell them to make some lifelong connections. Of course, we would hit the studio, that’s really where I spend most of time. Leimert Park is a great place to check out as well. Love being around my people.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to S/O my huge network around the world. We all support one another where we are different countries or states. On this journey, I have had help from many people, and I reciprocate the energy. You don’t have to do anything alone, which is why I launched Motivated Purpose Group. It’s a hub from creators to bring all our resources together.
