We had the good fortune of connecting with Khamaaré and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Khamaaré, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I always like to say I’m from Houstonlanta as a joke because those two places are a big part of who I’ve grown up to be. I was fortunate enough to have a beautiful upbringing with its bumps along the way but for the most part it was beautiful. I was always a private more reserved person as a child, but knowing I wanted in life I had to grow up fast being around the industry so young.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I began singing at the age of 5 then I moved to piano and it went on from there. I began songwriting at age 9 or 10 and it was strange territory for me of course, but I soon fell in love. By middle school I was playing 3 instruments and singing in anything I could. Around the time Chloe and Halle singed to Beyoncé’s Parkwood my mom presented me with the idea of “posting covers” I initially ignored it. 2 years went by I was graduating from Bunche Middle School I had a lead in a musical it was all looking up for Highschool, then my grandma passed away. I lost myself, and I didn’t want to be seen or touch a microphone. Until one day I set the phone up and recorded a cover of Aaliyah’s “I Refuse” and to my suprise her brother Rashad Haughton liked it.
From there came people like Beyoncé’s father, Beyoncé’s publicist, Neyo, Poo Bear, Lil Jon, Michael Bolton, Diane Warren, Jimmy Jam, Quincy Jones, Robin Thicke, and so many more big names. I shared the stage with Gary Lil G Jenkins of Silk, and performed for the Grammy chapter president all at 16. In that little time I learned everything happens on time and that work pays off. I want the world to know that I will always and forever be a true artist and entertainer I love what I do and will always put my all out and give it to you. No matter what they’ll write or say about me at heart I’ll always be that 5 year old boy singing Alicia Keys with stars in his eyes.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh wow! Recently I’ve been really into nature there are so many beautiful nature walks here in Georgia that me and my friends go to and picnic. I’d squeeze that in the itinerary for sure. Id visit all the good hole in a wall thrift stores, hit little five points, escape room, catch a drive in movie, six flags, and end it all with a roof top dinner down town.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First I’ll start with god for blessing me with my talents and protecting me always. My mom who always has my back she is my lawyer & my shield since the dawn of my day. We all deserve someone who professes greatness over everything we do, and for me that was my bonus dad as I call him a great man named Ihsan Hasan who has always saw something in my even when I didn’t see it. My father was also the first person to tell me I could be whatever I wanted to be to chase my dreams, and he was right so many things I’ve dreamed of are already happening. Unfortunately he passed before he could see it all. My entire family deserves a shout out especially the ones who encouraged me to dream bigger than life. Id also like to send thank Corey “Lil C” Hooker a father, artist, and businessman that was apart of my life for me years and had seen many things and showed me many ins and outs of this business and the person who encouraged me to pick up a pen and start to write music. I could write a novel on all of the people I could thank but I’ll finish this off by thanking myself. I work hard and I fought through a lot of darkness to get to the light.
