We had the good fortune of connecting with Khadija Hamilton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Khadija, why did you pursue a creative career?
Why I chose a creative career is because I need variation in my work life. I enjoy starting my work day and not sure what will happen within the next hour. Of course there is some kind of timeline planned for the day but dealing with a fashion emergency is much more fun than a emergency at someone else’s job.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Styledbyksh still has a ways to go. In my eyes I’ve barely stepped foot in the door. I’m completely on my own learning the industry which continues to be a challenge. But with the help of friends doing the same and a few mentors I’ve met along the way it gets easier by the day. What I want my brand to be known for is its openness. I’m just a girl that wants to make people happy with whatever they feel the most comfortable in, I’ll just help you coordinate right. If you look good, you’ll feel good!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had a friend visiting NYC I would take them to Brooklyn Bridge Park, not only for the view but to go roller skating. Then we could probably hit my favorite brunch spot in Brooklyn called Woodlands (which is no longer open) so Chick Inn in Harlem can be a replacement. Then maybe hit the Shaking Crab for a seafood boil for dinner. Other days we can head to Cantina, Harlem Hooka or Babylon, and maybe end a night at Lot 45 in Brooklyn.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’ve always enjoyed putting outfits together on myself. I told my mom by 7 that I wanted to dress myself and always did from then. Later on, I found a site called “Looklet” that no longer exists, sadly. It was the Polyvore before it existed. I would put outfits together and built a community of people that enjoyed the same thing. From then on I knew I wanted to do this for the rest of my life and get paid!
