We had the good fortune of connecting with Kerrie Kelley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kerrie, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I would love to be able to say I chose an artistic/creative career, however; that’s not my story. As cliché as it sounds, it chose me.
Over a decade back, I had a personal want/need for skincare that would nourish and repair my skin using organic ingredients. I soon found out that what I was looking for was not in my budget.
(insert a big pity party)
I remember being at a local farmers market and thinking “wow, there is so many vitamin and nutrient rich items here….. How do I take these items and transform them into something not only I can use, but also for others that may be in the same situation as me.
After much research, experimentation, and hard work, Kerrie’s Organic Skincare was born.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Kerrie’s Organic is a female owned-luxury skincare company based in Atlanta, Georgia!
I am most proud of being able to offer a product consumers can trust without having to dissect the label and ingredients to find out what they are really getting/using.
All products are handmade in small batches, while sourcing as many local-organic ingredients as possible. I have a core belief that “what you put on your body is just as important as what you put in your body”.
Many skincare products are filled with chemicals that don’t help you. Quality should never be a compromise. No matter what skin care product you’re looking for, I guarantee reliability. My goal is to enhance people’s skincare experience by offering consciously crafted products that yield results, so that people can effectively support their skin through authenticity.
This journey has not been easy, but it has absolutely been worth it.
Along the way I have learned as much about myself as I have business. I have learned that failures truly are only lessons if YOU allow them to be. Lessons that will prepare you for your victories and be foundational building blocks to the top.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Georgia has a lot to offer. Within an hour you can be in the mountains or the city!
I’d recommend a fun day in the mountains. If it is Summer, a day on the lake (Lake Blue ridge is beautiful along with Lake Nottely) (They have tons of wonderful restaurants in downtown Blue ridge & Ellijay) If it is Fall, there is a plethora of Apple orchards to visit. 61 Main in Jasper, Ga. for lunch is a must! (It’s a fabulous farm to table spot)
Then, I’d recommend traveling down to the city. The Fox always has a wonderful line up of shows available. The Coca-Cola museum is a must if you’ve never been! Highland Tap in Virginia Highlands area is hands down a must eat, followed by a short walk to Paolo’s Gelato Italiano. (Authentic home made gelato, need I say more?)
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shoutout goes to a few!
First, my son, Jesse James Dean. The blessing of him coming into this world is what ignited my desire to not only be more conscience of what we put in our body, but also the importance of what we put on our body.
My sisters Jimmie Caviness & Kimberly Kelley for always supporting my creative business journey. (And for always being willing test subjects)
My old boss and friend Jenna Schreiber. I worked as a server at her farm to table restaurant. She gave me much more than a “job” she gave me an education on food, local community, and what it takes to be a woman in business.
My pharmacy work family for supporting and encouraging myself and my business!
Last, but definitely not least, my life partner, best friend, and confidant, Ahmad Ghafouri. Your encouragement and belief in me could move mountains!
