We had the good fortune of connecting with Kenisha Mcgee and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kenisha, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
How I came up with my business , I’ve always loved doing hair since I was about 11 and one day I got tired of working jobs so I told myself what is it that I really want to do? I asked myself what is my art? What is my craft? I said to myself doing hair is my art it’s my passion so from that day forward I created SlayedByNina !

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My most proud moment is seeing my clients after I have done their hair and they thank me and proud to be who they are because they feel good when you look good!. Personally it wasn’t easy just one day deciding to put all my effort into my business it came with a lot of things including cloudy days , some days I didn’t know where I was going to lay my head , or even have food but I kept going and overall I’m am proud of myself for who I am and who I have become! Lessons that I have learned is to listen to yourself, to pursue the dreams I want to pursue not listening to people who don’t have the same dreams or ambition as me. I want the world to know be true to yourself! Create what you love and keep pushing towards your dreams/goals. Also I want the world to know about me is I’m a sunflower I grew up in Kansas , then moved to Louisiana, I took my brand to Atlanta then to Dallas Texas and I’m excited for many more states I decided to travel to and make my name know their as well!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take my bestfriend to Mardi Gras in New Orleans! There are plenty of nice restaurants on canal street and also in the French quarters ! We would definitely go to a nice restaurant called Houstons, acme , and their are plenty more . They have nice bars ,casinos ,big celebrities come down for Mardi Gras all around it’s good vibes !. We would catch all of the biggest parades and enjoy our time.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Yes the person I would love to shoutout to is my son! Through all the days of telling him my dreams and desires he has supported me through them all and I am forever grateful for his support! Along with god keeping me on this new journey!
