We had the good fortune of connecting with KEISHA MURPHY and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi KEISHA, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind starting my own business, was really having the mindset to elevate. I looked at my life and was like “its going great, but it could be better.” I’ve worked a 9-5 my entire adult life which was working out great, but I wanted something of my own, something that I can actually say I own. A business that one day my daughter (if she wants that is), can take over, it boils down to leaving a legacy and building generational wealth.
What should our readers know about your business?
JMG Vending is an established vending machine company dedicated to hard work, I pride myself on being reliable, dependable and trustworthy, while still providing an outstanding customer experience to various businesses. One thing I would say that sets me apart from others is that I am a woman, the vending business in the past was lead mostly by men and in todays society that has changed. I have gotten to where I am today by coming out of my introverted shell and connecting with the right people; being able to have the confident to speak out in a room filled with business minds a-like. It definitely was not easy, starting up my business I heard a lot of “no’s,” before I heard “yes we are in need” but I did not let that discourage me I continued to push forward. One lesson I’ve learn, which is an age- old one, is to never give up, put all you have into something you truly believe and make it magical. I thought about quitting so many times when I hit a roadblock but I had to keep telling myself this is not the end only the beginning, your story does not end here. So with that being said never give up on your dreams, but put in the hard work and make it magical! I hope I can inspire and help others who are looking to start a vending business as well.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Geesh I am such a homebody, but I would have to say I would take my bestfriend to Garden Parc in ATL, I recently went there for the first time and the atompshere was a whole vibe, definitely a pretty girl hideaway. So we would book for the brunch and its all you can eat (different varieties) french toast, chicken, shrimp, potatoes, etc., oh and lets not forget Mimosas and a DJ, dancing and just really vibing out! That experience alone would have her set for the weekend lol
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to shoutout S.I.N.C.E 21, a women’s empowerment organization. It has been truly an inspiration and without the help of the President Saasha Demps, I wouldn’t have secured my very first vending location when I started my business.
