We had the good fortune of connecting with Keisha Elise and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Keisha Elise, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
I made a decision to pursue something I was really passionate about. I no longer wanted to “play it safe” with a career that did not make happy. I knew my passion for beauty would be my motivation to be successful in my business.

What should our readers know about your business?
Keisha Elise is a former educator and mother to three beautiful children. Keisha found her passion for makeup and fashion at an early age. However, she put her dreams on hold when she found out she was pregnant with her now 13-year-old daughter. She was a single parent for many years and struggled to put herself through school while providing for her children. As her children got older, Keisha started to realize she was very unhappy with her education career. She then decided to take a leap of faith and quit her teaching job to pursue her dreams in the beauty industry.

Keisha Elise Cosmetics is a cruelty-free, mommy& me beauty brand. Our mission is to bring more representation of minority groups to the beauty industry while creating a positive space for mothers and daughters to shop together. We are dedicated to promoting self-love and building self-esteem through our products.

Let me start off by saying I am very proud of our accomplishments thus far. We have been featured in ABC 11 NC, Weekly Style Magazine, The News & Observer, and The Triangle Tribute. We also just completed the 100K incubator with Arielle Loren and Target and had the opportunity to sell our products in Manhattan, NY

One of the biggest lessons I have learned along the way is that life is too short to be unhappy. Sometimes it takes you being uncomfortable in life to force you to do something different or make a change.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend came to visit NC for a week, we would be hitting downtown Raleigh for the nightlife experience. We have a variety of restaurants, bars, and clubs to chose from. North Hills Shopping mall is great for taking a stroll, live music events and going to the movie theatre. My favorite restaurants are Backyard BBQ (Soul Food), Mi Cancun Mexican Restaurant and Orient Garden (best Chinese I have had in NC). Kings Bowling alley is great for Karaoke, bowling, and great food.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
1) My daughter Kaylah Marie for inspiring the idea to create a beauty brand for young girls.

2) My mom for always being my biggest support system. She has always been my voice of reason and motivated me to pursue my dreams.

3) My boyfriend Chris for just being an overall supportive partner. He’s always looking at the bright side of things and I am very thankful for that.
