We had the good fortune of connecting with Keelie Armstrong and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Keelie, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
During the time my thought process began, the entire world was going through the scary COVID pandemic. Everyone was being laid off, including myself. I’m from a small town in middle GA, so I’ve watched almost everyone in my life begin some type of business for themself. Through the pandemic, I was able to spend even more time with my dog Millie, which made me pay even closer attention to what I was feeding her. I started to notice treats on a store shelf just weren’t as healthy as you’d trust them to be. I wanted to create something not just healthy, but safe and beneficial. My process then began with researching everything from dog health to what ingredients can cause what it benefit what for dogs.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My business is Millie’s Treats, LLC. Where we make all-natural dog treats with ingredients that are 100% safe and beneficial.

I will say, running a small business is not the piece of cake small business owners make it seem to be, ESPECIALLY during a pandemic. But it’s definitely one of the best adventures and experiences I’ve ever put myself into. I’ve learned over time, dog treats are a very competitive game. You have to know what you’re doing and stay on top of it. I’ve met so many amazing small business owners through this process who have been so amazingly helpful. Running a small business is knowing sometimes it’s not as easy as clocking in and clocking out, especially in the beginning. It’s working day and night, doing something you love to do.

With Millie’s Treats, LLC we’ve accomplished so much. From helping dog rescues to shipping to 15 out of 50 states in the U.S. and making hundreds of deliciously safe treats for doggies all around. But we do not plan on stopping there. I want to do so much more with this brand all over the world one day. Because Millie’s Treats, LLC are the treats you can trust, and your dogs will love.

Some people look at dog companies and think “it’s just a dog”. But people don’t realize, they are so much more. From being a family’s best friend, to being a service animal. Dogs are a huge part of the world we live in.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
A lot of the times I get the question “where are the best dog friendly places around the area” though we have lots, here are a few of mine and Millie’s favorites…

Piedmont Brewery in Downtown Macon, GA, me and Millie LOVE sharing a side of their delicious French fries.

Frankie’s Boutique on Cherry St. in Macon, GA, they are oh so dog friendly, sometime you’ll even see our doggie friend Koda greet you at the check out counter!

Wellston Park in Warner Robins, GA for the beautiful trails for a fun hike on a warm summer day

Est. Collective Furniture Co. in Dublin, GA to shop lots of local small businesses and their products. And they are super dog friendly as well!

Gracie’s Rooftop: A Rooftop Bar in Warner Robins, GA you can bring you pup up for a nice evening at their super cute rooftop!

Dickey Farms in Musella, GA where in May you can pick strawberries, pick up some yummy peaches and you absolutely can’t forget to grab some home made ice cream to share with your pup while you’re there!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mom. I grew up in a 2 child home with a single mother. My mom really worked her butt off for every single thing, it not only showed me, but it also taught me that women are capable of any and everything. Most parents probably wouldn’t be too happy about their 19 year old planning to quit their full time job to fully focus on their newly started small business but my mom was my full support system, and has been there every step of the way.
