We had the good fortune of connecting with Kathy Vail and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kathy, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
The most important decision that I made was to commit myself to provide my students with high quality, professional coaching that always focuses on the individual. To that end, continuing coaching education is a requirement for our coaching staff
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Dunwoody Fencing Club is a highly competitive epee club that also welcomes recreational fencers. We are one of only two clubs in the United States to be designated as North American Mangiarotti Society center of instruction. DFC is also the only fencing club to be currently recognized by the US Department of Health and Human Services as a National Youth Sports Strategy Champion. We have coached fencers of all ages to championship status at regional, national, and international levels. Our successes are due in large part to our students learning to enjoy fencing and committing themselves to working toward their goals. We never forget that fencing is fun!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Definitely the Atlanta History Center and the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. You can easily spend a weekend at the History Center visiting their excellent displays, The Botanical Gardens are beautiful by day and by night.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to the North American Mangiarotti Society and to the National Youth Sports Strategy Champions program
