We had the good fortune of connecting with Karima Lee and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Karima, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Taking risks can either be a game changer or make you humble. Either way it’s a lesson in disguise.

What role has risk taking played in your life/ career?
I’ve been taking risks all my life, from living in one state one day, to packing and moving to another the very next day. No plan, no money, just faith and a dream! Taking risks for me has been rewarding thus far. It’s allowed me to “experience life” at my lowest to appreciate and value the end reward as an individual and as a business owner.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I officially founded The Bando Project inc. last January 2020. I teach youth in my community how to become entrepreneurs through art, financial education (stock and trading), and more. What sets us apart from other coaching organizations is our ability to provide internship opportunities by way of influencers through social media. We also incorporate programs for our teens to earn income while starting their brands. Aside from that, we provide monthly recurring diaper subscriptions to families for free in exchange for their time once a month to discuss self care, mental health, and financial stability. I’m excited about two upcoming projects this year ” Project Bundle Up” “Gamers Geeked” and our “Drop the pin “initiative  ( gotta stay tuned for more info)!, This journey was not easy, I’ve experienced several life changing experiences including homelessness. Choosing faith over fear kept me going and has put me in some rooms with names I would have never been able to afford to sit with. I’ve learned that life has its challenges but the ability to overcome them are up to you. Are you going to flake or fold? This year we plan to expand our services to be able to bring teens from different states together to network and share their experiences.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
A Week with me in Atlanta, we’re OUTSIDE!. I absolutely love food! Celestial munchies would be one of my top picks for food, they have best vegan macaroni in town. Slutty Vegan for burgers and the best fries in Atlanta, and Life Bistro for their vegan nachos. Im into cars so I we would most likely take a drifting course or something. Lastly, the Black Aviation Museum in Fulton County is pretty dope so we’d probably check that out too.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I dedicate this shout out to Mia Ferguson and The Pinky Cole Foundation for taking me in as a business owner and providing tools and resources to help my organization grow.
