We had the good fortune of connecting with Kara Horton-Bettes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kara, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I wanted to start a business that would not only be fashionable and creative but also essential in today’s society. I wanted to create a product that would help people stay safe, so I decided to start B² Designs and make face masks. (https://bsq2designs.wixsite.com/website)

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I would say my eye for patterns and love of fashion have helped to set me apart. Since I’m still building B² Designs and getting it out to the public I can’t say I’ve overcome all the challenges but I do welcome them. I learn lessons everyday, from scheduling time to create masks, budgeting to get materials and fabric, it’s all new to me but I love it! I want the world to know this is only the beginning, I plan on creating many different items under B² Designs in the near future.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My best friend and I used to live very close to each other and would get together almost everyday. Over the years we’ve both moved, so when we get together now quality time is very important. If we were to take a trip soon we’d probably go to a nice cabin. We’d watch movies in a theatre room, catch up on the little details that we may have missed chatting on the phone, we’d probably stock the cabin with food, and just put a pause on our busy schedules for a moment. I find museums one of the most fun and interesting places to go. Being surrounded by creativity and art is uplifting and motivational for me. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate this to my friends that are more like family, they’ve always been the backbone of my life and my greatest support system.
