We had the good fortune of connecting with Juwan Carter and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Juwan, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk, in my opinion, is an uncomfortable reward; if you want to achieve your goals, you will eventually have to take those steps. Although taking a risk can put us in difficult situations, it can also reap rewards if we put in the necessary preparation and effort. Risk has served as a test of my faith and tenacity that I will receive tenfold returns on anything I invest.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art, in my opinion, is a language I don’t have to speak. The phrase “a picture is worth a thousand words” is aptly embodied by this. The aspect of my photographic experience that I am most proud of is how, just a few years ago, as a freshman in a photography club, I turned that same passion into a company. It took a lot of hard work, dedication, and sleepless hours to get me to where I am now. One of the few things I’ve learned along the way is that, although conforming to social norms isn’t necessary to succeed, sticking to your most authentic self is. Lesson two comparison is, really, the theif of joy. I would like everyone to be aware that I’m a person who firmly believes in being 100% yourself and that faith and hard work will take you anywhere.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend came to visit, I would take them to Battery Atlanta and the Atlanta Beltline area . Where we go to the Sandbox VR and play the many simulations that they provide for the first few days, my favorite is the scary mansion simulation. Then we’d go to Ponce City Market, which has a tiny amusement park on top called Skyline Park, with a beautiful view of the city. Our final day, we would go to visit the multiple restaurants along the belt line, including my favorite, Shake Shack on the east side of the belt line.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would want to give a shoutout to my childhood friends Deji, Myles, and Jalani who served as my models when I first began out in photography and were always available to help me hone my skills.
