We had the good fortune of connecting with Julian Wissman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Julian, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
There are multiple factors behind our current success, but the first and foremost would have to be our grit. We constantly persevere and stay outside of our comfort zone. If we aren’t constantly facing challenges and overcoming obstacles, then we know we aren’t growing. Our goal is outwork everyone to the point that we can’t not be successful. There’s a lot of long hours and most definitely hard work. Being a small business is almost impossible. The deck is stacked against you and its your job to beat the odds and provide for your family and employees.
We’ve also been privileged with some awesome mentors along the way that enabled us to do what we do.
We are also excel at thinking outside of the box. For example, we not only provide delicious food, but we also provide an experience. We want our guests to have a place to come and hang out, enjoy the music, and also having some of the best from-scratch food we can provide!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Without a doubt, what we’re most proud of are our Phở Buddies. They’ve been amazing support and have been a part of our story from day one. Our guests and supporters have joined us for the ride and they are the reason we’ve made it this far. It’s truly an amazing feeling when you have people coming by not for any reason other then to just ask us how we’re doing and wanting to just spend time with us. It really makes all the grinding worth it. We really appreciate each and everyone of them.
We’re opening a restaurant in the glenwood park neighborhood very very soon and we’re hosting a preview/ second birthday party at a local restaurant call Ration and Dram on August tenth
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First, you definitely need to stop by Poco Loco for breakfast. They have some of the most PHENOMENAL breakfast burritos from scratch. Plus, the owner and team are just full of amazing hardworking people.
Next, stop by Contrast in Chamblee for drinks. They’ve got delicious beer with awesome bartenders. They have new flavors all the time and they’re always very well thought-0ut and creative. If you’re lucky enough to catch the owner, Chase, sit down and have one of the best conversations you’ll ever have.
For lunch, Bone Garden is definitely the way to go. Grab a seat at the bar and hangout with the bartenders while eating delicious spicy Mexican food paired with some stelar mezcal . It’s one of our favorite haunts.
For a fun dinner, make a reservation for Hibachi Teppanyaki at Nakato. The hibachi chefs all have their own welcoming personalities and the food is always off-the-charts delicious. The serving sizes are extremely generous. This is a celebration staple.
After making your way through Atlanta and enjoying all the sites, finish off the night at Smith’s Old Bar. They’ve got live music, billiards, and a full bar. It’s a great spot to just hang out and meet new people.
Atlanta is full of amazing sites and scenes. These are just some of our favorites.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We’ve been able create a wonderful group of friends and family! It all started out with our weekly Sunday pop-ups at amano in Midtown. They were generous and gracious, letting us use their parking lot to cultivate our brand. Once the city started opening back up, we got to spend time at various breweries: Contrast in Chamblee, Eventide in Grant Park, and Slow Pour in Lawrenceville. It’s also been amazing to be a part of multiple Atlanta Creative Events Food Truck Festivals!
