We had the good fortune of connecting with Joshua Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Joshua, career-wise, where do you want to be in the end?
Professionally, as an end goal for my career, I want to be a full time photographer, expanding my brand, working with different creatives and celebrities such as Issa Rae, Zendaya, and brands such as Savage x Fenty and so on and so forth. Eventually, I want to open up a few studios all over the United States. After that I’ll pursue my other avenues, such as, music, fashion, and dancing.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My brand, The Classic Shot was created to portray everyday culture, through the lens of a camera. Especially in the sense of fashion. I started off not knowing the avenue I wanted to go in, as far as photography, but I soon realized that photography is what you make of it, and fashion, art of all forms, and people has always played a vital part of who I am today. I’m most proud of Crete, Lil YACHTY’s brand sharing my work and using it for their brand. It was not easy and it still isn’t easy on this journey, but it is so worth it. I’ve learned that not every one will take this journey with you, and that is okay. I’ve also learned that you have to work extremely hard to get where you want. I want the world to simply see and acknowledge that I love what I do and I want everyone to see that too.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would definitely recommend getting some wings and going to Cascades to skate. You can also go to the top floor of Ponce City Market to grab a drink, play some games, or eat some food.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First I have to give a shout-out to my parents for connecting me and giving me my first camera. I want to also shine a light on every single person who has ever shared my work or invested money, time, and/or connections to my brand. Also shoutout to music artist Lil Yachty and his creative nail brand Crete for sharing my work for their brand.
