We had the good fortune of connecting with Jose Guillen-Lambert and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jose, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
When I first started my business, I absorbed a enormous amount of time in it. I realized by putting so much time into it I was neglecting my family. I quickly realized I needed my family! Without my family I don’t have a business. My family is my support and I need them every step of the way. I now make them a priority and have developed boundaries to turn the business off when I need to make time for them. I have learned you have to make time for yourself and family. This takes discipline like any other habit you have in life.

It has not been easy but having a team that shares the same values and passion for what you do and automatizing our systems so we can focus on the important parts of the business helps us achieve a work life balance.

Balance is something that you must evaluate constantly. Just like a measuring balance you must add things and remove things to balance the scales. I like to plan my day before I start it in the mornings. As I look over my schedule I see where it’s off balance and adjust. I evaluate my schedule using the four “F’s”: Family, faith, fitness and fun.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

Starting my own business has been an organic process.  It began with me planning events and organizing trips for friends and family. My mom often tells me that I was born to plan. She recalls that I used to pretend I was a party planner when I was 5 years old. After working in hospitality and corporate America for more than 15 years I decided it was time to make the transition and fulfill my passion of starting my own business.

As a business owner and entrepreneur you have to give 100% everyday and sometimes more. Starting and growing a business comes with challenges, long hours and roadblocks. Your success depends on your determination and dedication not the love you might have for your business. Risk has played a very important role in our business. Risk has helped us to innovate and to come up creative solutions as a part decision making process. Not all the risks we have taken have been successful, but we have gained experience and more knowledge when taking them. Risk has lead us to achieve further success in personal developments and the growth of the business.

The habit of optimism has helped us succeed the most. I like to see the glass half full in all that I do and encounter instead of half empty. It’s easy to develop a pessimistic outlook on life and view everything you encounter as a threat. When I feel threatened by something I practice mindfulness and push myself to look at the positive sides of the threat. Optimism can be challenging as it’s something that doesn’t often become natural. I have found it takes daily discipline and practice to become more effective in your business or daily life.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I wouldn’t be where I am today without my support system, my family, friends and colleagues. My spouse and co-founder of Glambert Group, LLC encourages me to better each day. My drive and motivation for success comes from my son, family and friends. My colleagues and partners in this business help me find Inspiration because we share similar goals.
