We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordan Turner and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jordan, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I actually started started getting involved with music in the 8th grade. There’s a lot of things that fall into why I chose to pursue a rap career, but there’s one specific story as to why I started rapping. I had made the basketball team in 8th grade and that was like my first accomplishment in life to be honest. When I was younger I was really committed to basketball. Anyways, I remember before our first game my coach told me I couldn’t play in our first game because my grades weren’t good. I didn’t even know you had to have good grades to play basketball at that time. I felt like I let my mom down in a way because she was really excited to see me play basketball. So I guess you could say I’m doing this for her ultimately.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
For right now my art is making music. As I said before I started getting involved with music in the 8th grade. I was like writing to MexikoDro and Xangang type beats, but I didn’t make my first song until the summer of 2021 which is called, “PaperChasin.” What sets me apart from others in my city is they make the same type of music or they try to copy other artists. I feel as thought I have my own swag and nobody can really copy my style. I know that sounds cliché but it’s the truth. Becoming a rapper definitely wasn’t easy though. Before I started rapping, I was working at a grocery store called Giant. I was pushing carts for 10 dollars an hour weekly. So I saved my money and bought my own studio equipment. I record in my garage as of right now but I definitely hope to expand out into professional studios. I also mix and master my own music. I get a lot of my beats from youtube though. I always make sure whatever beat I get from YouTube is free for profit. Some lessons I’ve learned along the way is you can’t really bring everybody into the circle. You can’t really focus on other things when you’re making music because it’s going to hold you back from perfecting your craft. I want the world to know that I aim to make a name for myself in this world. I always wanted to be something in life. I feel as though that’s the whole reason why I’m even alive, my purpose is to be something.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I don’t really leave the house like that unless I have to to be honest. My friends and I don’t really do anything other than make music and work, but we always chill downtown.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There’s a lot of people I want to shoutout most definitely. First and foremost, I wanna shoutout the almighty god himself. I know a lot of people out there aren’t believers and that’s ok, I don’t judge anybody as long as they don’t judge me. Another person I want to shoutout is my mom. My mom and I’s relationship isn’t the best but she still raised an upcoming superstar. I wanna shoutout my right hand man K raw. He’s my bestfriend. I’ve known him since 5th grade, he was one of the first people I met when I had moved to a new school. Been locked in ever since. Shoutout T Dawg, that’s like my left hand man. I met him around the same time I met K raw and all three of us would run the around the suburbs causing havoc or playing basketball. He’s locked up right now, been locked up for like a year or so but he gets out this year so y’all definitely are gonna get some T Dawg tracks once he touchdown. Shoutout to my wonderful girlfriend De’Brea. I met her in college last year and ever since then she’s had my back through it all. She plays a big part because she’s the first girl to support me with my music career. Shoutout Drizz and Trappz. I met Drizz in school while I was in the suburbs but we weren’t as close as we are now. I met Trappz through Drizz this year basically through music and it’s been love ever since. He got me my first show out in Philly called Thraxxxfest. There’s a lot more I could shoutout but those are the main ones who’ve had an impact on my life.
