We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordan Rose and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jordan, what do you attribute your success to?
God. It’s as simple as that. There were many times throughout not only my career, but my life as a whole, where I could have given up: times where I was unbooked, times where I was broke, times where I was depressed and simply unmotivated. However, throughout all of this, God has continued to give me grace and favor. I had a post go viral once that stated “Praise God while you wait on your turn” and that is truly the motto that I live by. It is only through him that I have gotten countless opportunities to create and inspire – and it is only through him that I will continue.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I wandered into film, somewhat by accident. In fact, I never imagined it possible to have a career in any creative space. I was not the kid that had a camera in my hand at a young age, I never touched a camera until my mom brought me my first camera at the age of 16. I started taking photos, and later began recording videos for my high school’s football team.
After graduating highschool, I went on to Morehouse College to pursue a degree in Political Science on the Pre-Law track. While there, I was asked to film a music video for a friend back home. Four years later, and after tons of trials and tribulations, here I am.
Though many people sing my praises for coming this far at such a young age, it has not been easy. Being young, in and of itself, has proven to be quite the challenge – as many professionals once questioned my abilities upon hearing my age; though, I don’t have this issue any more. I’ve went through many seasons of abundance and of scarcity – but it was only through God, hard-work, and dedication that I have gotten this far.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is interesting, mainly because I don’t go out – haha!. However, I would obviously fit a movie in the itinerary – I am a filmmaker, so of course.
We would eat at no. 246, Wings R Us (you all should try it), and JJ’s (off Wesley Chapel). I am an avid kitchen-lover, so I would cook for the rest of their visit!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Absolutely, a huge shout out goes to God. for without him I am nothing. Special thanks to my mom, for without her I would simply not be who I am today. Lastly, shout out to my partner, for holding my head high and embarking on this insane journey called life with me.
