We had the good fortune of connecting with Joiya Dai Anderson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joiya Dai, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The thought process behind Shimmer Me Lips was actually because I have always loved lipgloss. I love Beauty, make up lipstick all things Beauty. I always wanted to go into the Beauty supply store and purchase some gloss. Then I went to see my Aunt Freda and she introduced me to nighttime lipstick( a night lip moisturizer). I talked about it so much, until my mom made me a lip balm so that i would have. Y own night time lipstick. Then because I still wanted to buy lipgloss from the Beauty supply store, I asked my my mom to make some lipgloss. The balm was so good and people loved it, so why not create a lipgloss. So we decided that maybe, I should start my own Lipgloss business and make my own, this way I would never run out.

Now we have Shimmer Me Lips by Joiya Dai.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a little girl with huge dreams. I love the lights, camera and action. The city, if I could walk in the city and be amongst the city lights everyday and night I would. Every since I was able to make my own expression and voice my own opinions, it was Fashion. Purses, heels, makeup and the city lights. I wanted to be known and I wanted to do things. I wanted share and help other people. People that are around me know that I want to have it all. They also always make sure that I know I have to be smart. That I can’t be an unsmart fashion model or business owner. Of course me being 6, I think I can just do it. But, I am learning that education is first. I have to know how to read, count and comprehend, without those things I am building a empire for someone else to run that may take it all from me because I don’t know how to read, write nor comprehend.

Shimmer me Lips by Joiya Dai is the beginning of others things to come. However, although my mom is here now to watch over things, when I get older it’s going to be on me and without an education, the basic education I won’t be able to run my own company. Shimmer Me Lips by Joiya Dai is an all natural Lip gloss business started by a little girl that loves lipgloss. One day, I will be an adult and I say to myself and tell other young entrepreneurs we have to get our education, it’s the foundation of our success.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My best day would look like this if my friends were coming in town. I would have my mom get us a hotel in the city with a outside roof top and swimming pool. We would hang out up there enjoy the Sun and the pool. Later on take a walk in the city and be around all of the city lights and tall buildings. I love that scenery, but my mom doesn’t let us walk the town in the city. Then we would make our way over to the Sugar Factory. The milkshakes are huge and yummy. The kiddi drinks with the candy and the smoke, yeah I think they would have fun with those. Then we would go to like the history museum, the aquarium and then the Coca-Cola Factory. Love Coke, but I don’t drink dark sodas often.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shout-out goes to my mom and my family. My entire family, all of my aunts, my cousins, my dad, my uncles everyone. My family members are my biggest supporters. From my modeling shows, my acting and my Popup Shops, my mom gets it all together and my family comes out to support us.
