We had the good fortune of connecting with Joi Jamison and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joi, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
Being a dance director and founder of my own team (On Pointe Creative Dance Team) has taught me patience, humility, understanding, perseverance and dedication. I have learned over the years to be quick to listen first but also unapologetically open to speak my mind when the “timing” is right. Starting my dance team over ten years ago has allowed me to grow in ways that I had never imagined. I am grateful for all the life lessons, sacrifices and challenges along the way that have truly prepared me for this due season of abundance that I am in currently. I am so much wiser, stronger, bolder and knowledgeable of how true business and entrepreneurship life works and all that comes with it. All the late nights and early mornings truly make sense now.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is my passion and that is DANCE! From the age of 3 years old it has been a special and much needed part of my life. It is also a creative release therapy for me. I put my heart and soul into everything connected with dance and anyone that truly knows me, understands how important dance is to me. I have considered myself a creative for majority of my adult life. I have had careers in the corporate world but I never left dance alone. I always have found my way back to dance. The road has not always been easy let me add but it has definitely been well worth it. Prayer and patience continues to be a intricate part in me overcoming challenges that have come along the way. As director/founder of my own dance team it has allowed me to meet amazing people from all walks of life and open new doors for business opportunities. My work ethic, consistency and professionalism has also aligned me with major business deals that have been a huge blessing for my career and me personally. With my strong marketing and promotions background, I have also been able to brand, market and promote myself, my businesses and even partnerships I have with other entrepreneurs, organizations etc.

Sidenote: I am currently partnering with others/organizations on my very popular adult female dance fitness program entitled: Hotty Body Hip Hop with Joi.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout goes to my mother – Veronica a.k.a. Ms. V! She is often called the “Energizer” and where I get a lot of my spunk/sass from. My mother has supported me consistently with everything I have set out to do my entire life and even when she may not have understood completely all my “adventurous” leaps of faith, she never discouraged me. Sidebar: I have often been known as the rebel with a purpose amongst my family and close friends. Ok, now back to my mother, she is a strong, powerful, intelligent woman with a genuine heart of gold. She has been a great inspiration in my life and the perfect blend of grace, style and beauty. I love her dearly and I am so glad to be able to call her my mother. My mother even recently traveled with me and my competition dance team to a Grand Finale Competition to be in support in which we took home the 1st Place Title, may I add. This was so extremely special having her with me for such a memorable winning weekend.

My second shoutout will go to my grandmother, Louise. My grandmother understood me, never judged me and appreciated me being eccentric, artsy, thorough, different and out of the box. Her amazing spirit will forever live on and I will never forget our wonderful talks from my childhood years until she passed away some years ago. She was such a beautiful woman, inside and out. She instilled a lot of wisdom in me at a very young age. One conversation/manifestation in particular my grandmother told me was about the “STAR” within me and that my light will not only inspire members in my family but the entire world. I will never forget that conversation we had and I continue to strive to this very day to be that radiant light that she spoke of in all works that I set out to do because I know she is watching.
