We had the good fortune of connecting with John West and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi John, why did you pursue a creative career?
It was something that fell in my lap honestly. People saw that I had a creative eye & gift, every picture I took people were so amazed like “you need to get into photography” I kept hearing it over & over again, so I finally decided to make the decision to finally step into the creative industry & make a name for myself.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart from everybody is that I’m very key on diversity in the style that I shoot & the concepts that I come up with.
I’m proud of myself & how far I’ve come from working day in & day out, sleepless nights, staying up
Til 3am sometimes 4 or 5 to get what I need done.
I got to where I am today by constantly creating, working, networking & grinding.
No it was never easy it was challenging, I definitely have many stories of all the things I’ve faced during my journey, I overcame it all by praying everyday that everything I do will pay off in the long run. I kept pushing everyday even when I wants to give up I kept going.
My biggest lessons were to keep your
circle small & watch who you work with.
I want the world to know that my story is different from most, I didn’t always have it easy like people “made it seem” even when it came to support it was very rare to get it. I had to rely on myself to really keep pushing.
I want the world to know that my brand isn’t like anything else. It’s unique, it offers a different look & a different feel than what you mostly see.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to half smoke in DC that’s a pretty popular spot for food
For drinks I would say Amsterdam lounge
Hangout spots would be MGM national harbor hotel
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Going by Instagram names
