We had the good fortune of connecting with JMeel and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi JMeel, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Never giving up has been the most important factor behind my brand JMeel Music. As an independent artist, through the wins and loses I have made up in my mind that “giving up” is not an option. I have been on this journey for a while now and although I have so much to be thankful for, I know that I have only just scratched the surface of what my ultimate goals are as an artist. I truly believe that what you put in, is what you get out. I put my all in my brand financially, physically, mentally, and emotionally. It is my goal that the work I put in will allow me to have longevity in the entertainment business. I want to impact the world through music and entertainment. My brand is constantly evolving in efforts to remain consistent, relevant, and innovative.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My drive sets me apart from other independent artists. In Atlanta, music is heavily saturated with talented singers, musicians, actors, etc, being able to take charge of your career is what many artist lack. Artists must understand that the entertainment business is a business and it must be treated as such in order to generate revenue from what you love doing. You have to take time to invest in yourself, your craft, and your brand if you plan to see results. No one will take you serious if you don’t show that you take yourself seriously as a business. One challenge I have experienced is knowing my value as an artist and what I bring to the table, I have had to work on not settling when it comes to my brand. Knowing when to say “no” if that opportunity is not going to benefit your brand/business. I want to world to know that I am dedicated to what I do and that I never gave up on my passion.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would have brunch at Highland Bakery, then go by Lenox Mall and Phipps Plaza to check out some of my favorite stores. Dinner would be at Houston’s and drinks at Sivas after dinner. We would end the night at the Whiskey Blue at the W hotel with a nice rooftop view of the city lights.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I dedicate my shoutout to each of my supporters. My supporters have been on this journey with me since my first commercially released single in 2017 “Friend Zone.” For some of my supporters, even before then. I want to thank each and every person who has downloaded, streamed, shared, and reposted any of my work. It is through the people that I am able to reach beyond my network and create new supporters. I am grateful for each of my supporters.
