We had the good fortune of connecting with Jhane` Pearson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jhane`, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I am originally from Columbia, South Carolina. Born and raised country girl ! The woman who I have grown to become has a lot to do with my environment growing up and my family. I was raised in a middle-class suburban environment, which allowed for me to see the opportunities that were in front of me and have appreciation for where I could have grown up. I come from a family of hustlers, LITERALLY. My dad used to sell incense blocks and work, my mom always kept 2 jobs and my grandparents decided at a young age to overcome adversity and pursue careers. I grew up learning the importance of earning, saving and managing money. My dad used to have a candy store in the closet where me and my oldest sister would use our weekly allowance to purchase the candy we liked. At 5 years old I was subconsciously building a savings for my favorite sweets! My grandmother (Rosa Pearson) was a nurse but outside of her career she invested in stocks, life insurance and had savings accounts. She was considered the “bread winner” in the family so before she got ill and passed on, I sat down with her on several occasions, picked her brain and asked her “how did you make money”? That was the beginning of my journey to wanting to become a multi-millionaire.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
RMJ Property Group is a real estate investment company that assist minorities in building wealth by providing educational courses, resources and services. RMJ was founded in 2018 when I went to purchase my first home in South Carolina and was discriminated against. During that time, I was so uneducated on the homebuying process, understanding contract terms and agreements in the real estate industry. Nor did I look at it as my career path. At that time, I just knew that I wanted to buy a home because my grandparents and mother did it, I didn’t really understand the full capacity of being an owner in real estate.  The individuals and company I were working with to buy my home blatantly didn’t want me to obtain ownership or even understand the process which made me even more curious. I went through 5 different realtors, and they all seemed to give me the same energy; that they really didn’t want me to purchase. I had finally found a home I loved in a prominent area, and I was so excited but after I gave my earnest money and signed an agreement the agent called me and said the sellers decided to pull out of the deal. Later that day I ended up going into the office and right in front of me was the extended contract agreement with the broker’s name on it as the purchaser. Experiencing discrimination and knowing what was going on firsthand made me so sad, angry and MOTIVATED. A few months later I ended up closing on my first property and was inspired to help minorities just like me who probably endured the same thing. “Statistics show that African Americans have the lowest homeownership rate and that most of us will never own a home”. Those stats and my personal experience helped build RMJ Property Group today, which is what sets us apart from others because, its personal to me. I am so proud that to date we have helped over 15 families learn and achieve ownership by the education and resources we provide. I have also created a system that transitions my tenant to owners. During this process of building RMJ I have learned that there are so many stories like mine that go unheard of. So many minorities have been brain washed or discouraged to believe that we are not able to achieve ownership due to credit, resources, self-doubt or because we believe there are no resources for us, but RMJ Property Group is here to change that narrative. I love all people, but my community is in dire need of my resources which is why I serve them. I am so thankful for the vision and voice god has given me. I can’t wait to show others how it will all work out.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am a foodie girl! I love to eat at the local mom and pop restaurants I also love a good wine and dine. The authenticity of food and the love that they put into it can be felt. So, if a friend came to visit, we would visit downtown to experience the culture of Atlanta. The culture and MLK memorial are one my favorite spots it reminds me of how far we’ve come but also how much more we still must accomplish. I love Mr. Everything’s Café the food is so fresh and healthy depending on what you order. Then we would visit the mall of course! Lennox to be exact. I love a good workout and outdoors so hiking at Kennesaw Mountain because that is absolutely one of my favorite hiking spots. I would also probably attend a Heels & Fitness Class to get some god-fidence and energyyyy created by my great friend Kayla A because what would Atlanta be without dancing? And then head out for some drinks in the little 5 points area I love the local spots out there, its so nostalgic!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

My Daughter Riley M Johnson! She has inspired me to push myself beyond my belief. The motivation, encouragement and strength that I need lives in her. I was so afraid to have a child prior to feeling well established so I always worried about being the perfect mom but each day my daughter tells me how much of a great person I am. Our relationship is like no other and the things that I have instilled in her at the age of 6 determines that her future will be out of this world! Between her and God I have a great tribe.
