We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Peterson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessica, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My business has been in the makings in my mind for many many many years. Like many people I know, there is always a hesitation to starting any business because there are so many unknowns! I have always known that I wanted to have the opportunity to mentor children of all ages. It has always been on my mind and heart to start a program giving children the opportunity to learn different skills in a challenging and fun way. These skills could consist something as simple as learning a certain form of art and be a difficult as learning a new language. I wanted to be able to give children a creative outlet or a place to just learn the things you may not be able to from school. During covid I truly sat down and realize while the world was in chaos I wanted to make a difference and that is where I began putting my thoughts onto paper. Covid truly opened my eyes to the benefits of children having the ability to learn without being face to face. I took the skills I wanted to teach and the concept of being remote and bridged them together to create A Uniquely Experience. But then I wanted to take it a step further by adding the ability of one on one classes which allow me the opportunity to teach at each child’s individual pace in hopes of bringing fun and enjoyable learning directly to their homes.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Our goal at A Uniquely Experience Virtual Learning is to create a uniquely experience that challenges the mind while enhancing the brain one child at a time! We are a remote learning business. We give parents the ability to sign their child up for a variety of classes starting at the age of 4. These classes can all be taken from the comfort of their home. One of our most popular younger class is virtual Spanish. This is a one on one virtual class where your child gets to learn beginners Spanish. Our second popular class are our craft and fashion classes. These classes are offered to our older students and adults. These classes are customized based on what the individual person wants to learn. We have done cricut classes, screen printing, learning how to use the procreate drawing app, and have had fashion workshops where your child gets to learn the ins and outs of creating a clothing line. And the list goes on and one but I think what sets us apart is that parents have the ability to customize classes for their child around their work schedules. I have students that only take classes in the evening and then some that only take classes on the weekends. Some do every week some do every other week. It is completely based on what is convenient for my families. Getting where I am was not easy! Being in the educational field will always have its challenges from schedule conflicts, slow enrollment of students, to students lack of focus. Having my small business has taught me so much about patience and faith. Starting anything from the ground up is a challenge and at times you will feel like things may not being moving as fast as you would like them to but the smile on my students faces during class and hearing parents praise how much their child looks forward to class make each day worth the challenges that may arrive!

A Uniquely Experience is hoping to bring a lot more to our families! We will soon be introducing custom workbooks that can be purchased, custom learning kits, art kits with youtube self guided instructions, and many more classes. One of the biggest things we are excited about is our Love Uniquely Me movement for young girls geared towards building self esteem and creating the foundation for believing that anything is possible and that we are all beautiful inside and out!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I enjoy anytime my bestie and I get together!! We would spend most of the week relaxing and exploring! We love to try new things! One of the places that would be a must is the Sipping Plant. This place is super adorable. It has the same concept of sip and paint but you are creating your own plant home and then placing your plant inside. A super fun and relaxing activity. Of course we would do some light shopping. I personally love shopping at Phipps Plaza, Tanger Outlet, and Atlantic Station. The best part about Atlantic station is it gives the option of places to dine as well. I would take her to walk the beltline and enjoy some of the eats there (that would be a whole day thing). Since we like cooking we would take a day to have a picnic at Piedmont park and just enjoy the outdoors. I would spend an afternoon at Ponce City Market do some shopping and enjoy some food they have so many different restaurants and places to enjoy some great food. Then later that night we would ride up to the rook to Sky Line park and enjoy some games and fun. I would take her for some pampering spa time at at iwi fresh Garden Day Spa where we would get a veggie facial, full-body herbal massage, and the veggie manicure & pedicure. We would spend a day walking at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. Such a beautiful place to take some memorable pics and selfies. Of course while she is visiting we would look up a variety of restaurants, activities, or boutiques that are in the area that we would like to explore and visit!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost I have to give credit to my husband Robert he truly without hesitation has always been the person to say, “go for it”! Without him always being positive, encouraging, and constantly sharing ideas I could not have taken the big leap that I have with creating my small business! Secondly I must shoutout my four amazing friends well more like sisters, Tiffany, Sahar, Errin, and Alexus for always taking the time to listen to my ideas, proof read items for me, and always supporting and encouraging me to keep going! My daughters-Xiomara, Zaria, and Raquel for their consist support and just excitement towards my learning activity ideas. They are always willing to test out different concepts and tell me how they truly felt about the activity. My dear friend Josette with Metamorphasis Powerhouse Company Inc for always sharing her knowledge as a business owner and providing great tips and guidance. Lastly my family and friends whether they know it or not many of their educational experiences or their children’s experiences have also been constant insight to what I would or would not want my business to be!
