We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Burns and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessica, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Authenticity, intention, and integrity are essential attributes for success. They are all necessary as there is only one authentic you; our intentions behind what we do enable the passion and energy to create. Lastly, our integrity is the foundation for the long haul of growth, staying true to ourselves, and running the “marathon of life.”

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

My professional and personal life are synergistically connected. I am a wife of 22 years and a mother of 2 sons (21 and 17).

As a professional, I am an author of Golden Guidance: Reflections and Affirmations of Self-love, Faith, Healing, and Growth, a self-help book that encourages emotional awareness, spiritual and personal growth, and self-help advocacy.  I’m also business partners with Kenny Burns (my husband and life partner), a radio personality, entertainer, investor, brand marketing executive, and entrepreneur. We own and operate Studio 43 LLC, a creative marketing and brand agency, and BRNS LLC, a streetwear clothing brand; overall, my work style is rooted in integrity, high-level professionalism with artistic sensibilities, and entrepreneurial business savvy.

I began working at the early age of 14 and obtained my Bachelors in Business Administration [BBA- Finance] from Howard University after high school. However, I became a wife and mother three years post-graduation. I put that same responsibility and importance into managing our home and raising our sons.

As our children became middle school-aged and needed less hands-on mothering, I began applying my business insight and knowledge to support the back office of my husband’s business ventures. Through years of overcoming business challenges and having successes, those lessons and tools were essential to building a solid foundation of experience and knowledge, allowing us to grow our businesses and advise others along the way.

I discovered who I am and what I value most by managing family life. Through the many challenges that all relationships and families go through, I found journaling and meditation as a tool to support my emotional stress. Recognizing that our emotional challenges and unconscious behavior patterns substantially impact who we are, empowered my hope for inner change. Our choices add or subtract from our lives. We can change our beliefs and choose how to improve our lives and relationships. Unbeknownst to myself, this began my journey of self-awareness and spiritual, personal, and professional growth in self-help advocacy. Journaling my emotions helped me understand that we all have the power to change our lives, alchemize our pain into wisdom, and inspire others to do the same. That led me to use my words and create an artistically designed self-help book Golden Guidance.

I didn’t recognize the plan for my future, but I learned to accept the flow of life, have faith, and be open to the experiences the Universe brings. I have a lot to be grateful for and realize that the challenges we face personally and professionally exist for us to elevate, consciously expand, and peel back the layers to embody the highest version of ourselves. Most of all, the relationship we have with ourselves is the most important one, and when we honor, forgive, love, heal and accept ourselves, our life will unfold in the beauty of our divine unique process and purpose.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I wouldn’t be where I am personally, spiritually, or professionally without my family’s encouragement, love, support, my circle of soul sisters and chosen family, the wisdom gained from my life lessons, the words from my “spiritual teachers,” and my relationship with God. My Mom, a single parent, helped me establish my roots of integrity, honor, professionalism, and hard work. My husband and sons are the catalysts for my personal growth that has led me to have a better relationship with myself that has, in turn, positively impacted our home life.
