We had the good fortune of connecting with jenny lind and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi jenny, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I am from the Bronx New York. I was raised by grandparents. While my Grandfather was the patriarch of the family , my Grandmother was the real hustler, lol. Where there was a will , there was a way. She was a women with a 3rd grade education, that MADE IT ! She would all the time tell me to have faith and never take no for an answer. I possess alot of her qualities, I am so grateful that my circumstances allowed her to be a role model for me. She prepared me for hard work and success.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started this journey in permanent make up almost 6 years ago. At that time I was one of the few Women of Color permanent make up artist in the Atlanta area , or in the US for that matter. My journey wasn’t easy. Even-though it was only 6 years ago, it was a very different setting for women of color in that profession. Our voices was not being heard and our artistry not recognized. Me and a colleague decided to create PMU Women of Color to give a platform for artist like us, it was the 1st Permanent Makeup Conference for Women of Color EVER ! held in Atlanta and it was a success.
There is nothing like growing your business from the ground. You learn to appreciate and it makes you resilient. I am proud of where my business is at today. We are a boutique PMU salon, but we have an established name amongst the community. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shout out my students and clients, who make this journey worthwhile.
